Job Summary and Qualifications

The Lead Mental Health Technician provides supportive nursing care and administrative services to behavioral health patients participating in the multidisciplinary treatment team plan of care. You will work collaboratively and act as a role model for members of the health care team, maintain a safe environment, provide excellent customer service and provide non-medical patient and family education. You will demonstrate competency to provide age appropriate, recovery, and trauma informed care to adult patients (18 and older, including geriatric patients age 55 years+). Provide milieu management and oversight of potentially violent patients.

  • Demonstrate expertise in recovery and trauma informed care, mental health promotion, and maintenance of high-quality comprehensive patient care

  • You will work closely with the charge nurse, CNC, and BHU Manager to maintain and manage the milieu ensuring tasks such as Q15 min checks, environmental rounds, educational groups, etc. are completed in a timely manner

  • You will act as a mentor and preceptor to the mental health technicians

  • You will maintain patient’s activities of daily living. Perform all specific skills assigned including personal hygiene such as bathing and keeping beds, clothing, and living areas clean, assists patients with meals, and assists with meals on unit according to procedure giving direct patient care to assigned patients in a complete and accurate manner

  • Provide patient and family general, non-medical education. Leads community group sessions as part of the therapeutic treatment.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • High School Diploma or GED and either enrolled in an Associates or Bachelors level program, or has six months of previous psychiatric experience (required)

  • Associates or Bachelors’ Degree in Psychology or related field (preferred)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (required)

  • Previous one year experience in an acute care adult, geriatric or child/adolescent behavioral health setting preferred
