Job Summary and Qualifications

The Admin Director of Behavioral Health Nursing has responsibility for providing leadership, direction, and administration of direct patient care activities, nursing practice, and nursing education and development across the Tucker Pavilion. The Admin Director of Nursing is responsible for driving, supporting and modeling a culture focused on employee engagement, quality, patient safety, fiscal responsibility, and the overall patient experience.

Operations and Outcomes:

  • Enhances quality outcomes by collaborating with leadership (including but not limited to the Vice President, Behavioral Health Services) and Quality Department. Plans, coordinates, manages and monitors comprehensive Behavioral Health quality management program. Facilitates the Tucker Pavilion Quality Management Committee Meetings. Serves as an organizational resource for Behavioral Health quality management information.

  • Aligns with CSG Behavioral Health Director Capital Division on all clinical initiatives (UoD, HBIPS, orientation, regulatory preparedness/mock surveys, patient satisfaction and safety). Escalate any conflicts between Nursing Agenda and Behavioral Health Agenda to Vice President, Behavioral Health Services.

  • Strategizes and partners with the Vice President, Behavioral Health Services to drive process improvements focused on innovative care delivery and/or operational models designed to improve clinical services, outcomes, patient throughput, and patient safety.

  • Promotes the use and implementation of technology in the workplace in order to streamline operations, facilitate communications, and optimize work processes.

  • Collaborates with other disciplines for the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures that address how patient care needs of the patient population served are assessed, met, and evaluated.

  • Ensures patient and family centered care is comprehensive, coordinated, and monitored for effectiveness through the quality improvement model that leads to systematic improvements over time resulting in outcomes measures that outperform benchmark statistic of national database used in patient and nursing sensitive indicators.

  • Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration with clear expectations and direction to all practicing nurses about the importance of partnerships with patient and families, and with all disciplines to ensure a comprehensive care plan is developed and documented.

  • Coordinates and directs nursing activities related to Joint Commission, DBHDS, HCFA and other regulatory agencies to promote compliance with all standards and/or to address and resolve any deficiencies. Works collaboratively with Administration, Risk Management and Behavioral Health staff in coordinating risk management activities. Facilitates handling of patient/family/staff concerns. Shared responsibility for directors for 24/7 ownership for staffing of the units.

  • Has Oversight and Shares responsibility with directors for 24/7 ownership for staffing of the unit

Leadership:

  • Serves as a member of the Tucker Pavilion and Chippenham Nurse Leadership Team team, building and supporting effective collegial relationships with applicable internal and external constituents and stakeholders and ensuring optimal operating effectiveness and strategic positioning.

  • Communicates expectations, develops leaders and staff in the Tucker Pavilion to meet current and anticipated needs and strategic priorities for Behavioral Health in the Tucker Pavilion.

  • Promotes relationships among all types of community organizations to improve patient outcomes and the health of the communities served.

  • Supports structures, systematic and equitable processes and expectations that support lifelong professional learning, role development and career enhancement.

  • Collaborates with directors in hiring, orientation, evaluation, discipline, and education of all clinical staff in the Tucker Pavilion.

  • Regularly rounds on key constituents (patients, families, employees, and physicians) to enhance communication, ensure alignment, oversee operations, and to ensure the patient experience is exceptional

Practice:

  • Establishes mechanisms to assure nurses throughout the Tucker Pavilion are involved in shared–governance and decision-making structures and processes that establish standards of practice and address issues of concern.

  • Assures the flow of information and decision-making is bi-directional and horizontal between and among Tucker Pavilion Nursing and Support Staff, the Tucker Leadership Team and Chippenham Hospital.

  • Supports and enhances a culture of evidence-based decision –making in clinical and management initiatives.

  • Supports and develops, where necessary, nursing policies, nursing standards of patient care, treatment and services for patients in the Tucker Pavilion.

  • With the Vice President, Behavioral Health Services for the Tucker Pavilion support a Professional Practice Model that illustrates alignment and integration of nursing practice with the mission, vision, philosophy, and values that CJW and the Tucker Pavilion have adopted.

  • Ensures the care delivery system is integrated within the Professional Practice Model and promotes continuous, consistent, efficient, and accountable patient care.

Education & Experience:

  • Graduation from an Accredited School of Nursing with an MSN - Required

  • Previous experience in an Behavioral Health facility or department - Preferred

  • 5+ years in nurse leadership role - Required

Licenses, Certifications, & Training:

  • Registered Nurse - Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in Virginia, in accordance with law and regulation - Required

  • CPI Certification - Required

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider - Required
