JOB SUMMARY: Provides supervision and rehabilitation to juveniles who have been referred to the department's Juvenile Leadership Academy (JLA). Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Acts as the liaison between the juvenile, the juvenile's family, the JLA program/probation department and the court. Counsels with juveniles, their families and other persons and/or agencies as needed; provide Crisis Intervention and problem-solving solutions to families. Maintains written reports and daily chronological notes for each juvenile in the program or pending court, prepares and updates Caseplans/PACT assessments and other documents and/or assessments. Enforces court orders. Provides updates to the Court, submits Case Reviews, participates in status/adjudication/disposition/modification/revocation hearings. Prepares documentation for cases scheduled for detention and court appearances and/or hearings; testifies in court before court as to the department's recommendations. Participates in Monthly Treatment Team Meetings with each juvenile in the JLA Program. Constantly communicates with JLA staff, counseling staff, departmental staff and partners regarding the needs of the youth and families. Actively assists, attends and participates in Field Trips and Family Days. Conducts drug testing, electronic monitoring, field visits, school visits, home visits on juveniles as needed. Works with the District Attorney's Office, Juveniles Defense Counsel and the Court regarding the needs of the juvenile and makes recommendations to the court. Set up post-placement aftercare services for each juvenile exiting the program. Subject to irregular work hours, and other duties as assigned. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in criminal justice or other state approved related field. 2 years job related experience. Minimum 21 years of age/ per company policy Eligible to be Certified Juvenile Probation Officer. Good computer skills. Organizational skills with the ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials. Availability to be on-call 24 hours a day and work irregular hours.

STARTING SALARY: $36.96 per hour

An applicant may not have any of the following disqualifying criminal history: 1) A felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole. 2) A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole. 3) Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
