FORT BEND COUNTY MUNICIPAL PT Canine Leadership Program Assistant in Richmond, Texas

JOB TITLE: CANINE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM ASSISTANT - PART-TIME Clean and maintain kennel and surrounding grounds. Assist with daily care of dogs. Assist in transporting dogs. Conducts training with youth, participates in planning of programs and with policies or objectives for own work group and department. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: The assistant will be responsible for ensuring the canines are given exercise, cleaning and disinfection of the kennels, removing trash when needed, ensuring that canines have food and water, filling holes in the yard, and overall care of the dogs. Assists youth with the training of basic commands and provides lessons about the proper care and treatment of animals. The assistant will also help with the transport of canines when needed to vet clinics or to/from the shelter, assist the program coordinator in transporting and caring for dogs at various public events, and working with youth and canines in the detention facility on Thursdays and Fridays. Participate in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers. REQUIREMENTS: The assistant is required to be 21 years or older per company policy. The ideal program assistant will possess a High School Diploma/GED, have some experience working with animals and youth. The assistant should possess good organizational skills with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, juveniles and other employees. Literate computer and social media skills. The program assistant would also need to be eligible for certification as a Juvenile Supervision Officer, CPR, First Aid, Handle with Care Certification. Valid Texas Drivers License with current automobile insurance to operate company vehicle. Basic Animal Control Certification may be required after employment, at the departments expense. SALARY: $20.00 per hour, up to 29 hours per week An applicant may not have any of the following disqualifying criminal history: 1) A felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole 2) A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole 3) Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
