Summary of Role:

This position will be responsible for the reliability engineering program related to Balance-of-Systems (BOS) electrical components and inverters. This person will design reliability qualification and ongoing reliability test plans, conduct reliability lab and field studies, analyze data and clearly communicate test results and conclusions to internal cross-functional technical teams. As necessary, the person will also take the lead on investigations on laboratory and field reliability failures and propose initiatives that will continue to improve the reliability performance of electronic products.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In charge of reliability activities for a wide variety of auxiliary electronic products within the Residential business unit, from new product reliability qualification to ongoing monitoring of production-released products.

  • Take the lead in conducting Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) together with design, product and field applications engineering teams.

  • Work with development engineering to define quality and reliability qualification test plans based on field failure risk assessments and in compliance with international product and test standards such as UL, IEC, ASTM, etc.

  • Internally conduct reliability tests using laboratory environmental chambers and/or actual solar field exposure alpha test sites; analyze test results and provide technical recommendations to internal cross-functional teams.

  • As necessary, coordinate with external test providers and ensure the tests will be conducted according to specified test and/or electrical conditions.

  • Drive root cause analysis investigations in the event of reliability qualification and/or ongoing reliability test failures.

  • Develop reliability program policies and procedures that will align reliability qualification milestones to the over-all product development lifecycle from design concept up to approval for mass production.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering and 5+ years of related experience or M.S. Degree and 3+ years or Ph.D. 2+ years

  • OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience

  • Intensive experience in high-volume electronics manufacturing, preferably dealing with inverter and/or electric or solar products.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Reliability Engineer in an electronics production environment.

  • Deep knowledge of electronics industry reliability standards, product certification or test standards (UL, IEC, ASTM, etc), reliability test methods and acceleration models for life prediction.

    Essential Qualifications:

  • Intensive experience in Statistical Analysis (sampling statistics, confidence levels, SPC, DOE, etc) and software (JMP, Minitab, etc).

  • Well-versed in the internal setup and operation of reliability and electrical test equipment, including environmental chambers, power source, etc; 2 years of experience dealing with external laboratories, preferred.

  • Proficient in the usage of data acquisition and analysis software (Weibull++, Matlab, Labview, etc).

  • Diverse knowledge of multiple manufacturing processes (Surface Mount Technology, semiconductor assembly, electro-mechanical assembly, wiring, etc);

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Able to travel up to 10%

  • Able to work in a test laboratory setting and/or field exposure test site.
