Job Responsibilities/Duties

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 53 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated organization engineering organization. The Engineering organization at WRPS consists of process engineering, design engineering, nuclear safety, plant/system engineering, construction project engineering, procurement engineering, process and control system engineering, engineering standards/program implementation, and the Chief Technology Office. These areas support all areas of the tank farm mission including Retrievals, Production Operations, Field Projects, Waste Feed Delivery Projects, and long-term innovations.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

This position supports the Tank and Pipeline Integrity & Tank Monitoring Engineering team. The candidate will work closely with other team members, project managers, internal/external engineering organizations, along with external customers and regulators.

The successful candidate for the position will be willing to lead elements of facility integrity programs to monitor and maintain long-term system health, interfacing with operations and design authority personnel.

This will routinely require visits to the field to maintain cognizance of facility conditions and meet with subject matter experts in other organizations. Specific and essential responsibilities will include:

  • Participation in planning and development of field integrity inspections & assessments.

  • Participation in new inspection technology & equipment development.

  • Documentation and communication of field inspections in technical reports and presentations to foster continuous improvement of Tank and Pipeline Integrity programs.

  • Preparation of scope, cost, and schedules for projects/tasks.

  • Facilitation of regulatory required integrity assessment report development/issuance performed by an IQRPE subcontractor within an assigned area of responsibility.

  • Performance of assigned programmatic roles such as managing material resources, meeting regulatory requirements, attending field inspection activities, interfacing with craft/field crews, and subcontracting vendor support with associated oversight.

  • Investigating engineering problems, applying technical knowledge, and proposing solutions and alternatives in a learning environment.

The candidate should be a motivated engineer interested in joining a high performing team focused on tank integrity, worker safety, project execution and deploying innovative engineering solutions to novel tank integrity and monitoring challenges. This position will work closely with all members (12-15 engineers) of the Tank and Pipeline Integrity & Tank Monitoring organization and may participate in the diverse projects of the entire team. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to advance and grow in this role with increasing levels of responsibility and autonomy.

The candidate will coordinate with technical, industry and national laboratory experts working on integrity issues dealing with corrosion, forensic investigations, and non-destructive examinations being performed on tank and pipeline systems.

The engineer will be expected to complete WRPS' Engineering Technical Staff qualification card.

Required Qualifications

Grade 18:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; with

Seven (7) years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

Grade 19:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; with

Nine (9) years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Grade 20:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; with

Ten (10) years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.

Grade 18:

Hiring Range Minimum: $104,175

Hiring Range Maximum: $131,425

Grade 19:

Hiring Range Minimum: $114,475

Hiring Range Maximum: $144,325

Grade 20:

Hiring Range Minimum: $126,025

Hiring Range Maximum: $158,875

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
