The Optics Consolidated Manufacturing Center (OCMC) is seeking a highly motivated Optical Engineering Technical Fellow with deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience to support new product development at Raytheon.

A Technical Fellow is expected to work across Product Lines and Business Areas to support the critical needs of the Enterprise. A Fellow is expected to establish mentoring relationships to develop expertise and to fill knowledge gaps across the business. In this position, they must leverage a proven track record concurrent engineering that leads to successful first-time builds of deliverable and fielded optical hardware. The candidate of choice will encompass a history of fabrication and assembly innovation validated by patents and technical papers and have served as the technical lead through integration and qualification of optics/optical assemblies, as well as successfully leading teams in resolution to complex development and production issues and /or system anomalies.

What You Will Do

  • Provide innovative solutions consistent with customer needs

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers with regards to concurrent engineering, first time builds, and building customer relationships

  • Identify strategic development opportunities across the enterprise for optics and optical assemblies

  • Interface with program leadership and participate in customer and program technical reviews

  • Provide external benchmarking assessments by leveraging knowledge of the optical fabrication industry

  • Be accountable to leadership for technical decisions related to research, development, and capital investments

  • Provide inputs and reviews of the engineering technical baseline as part of proposal efforts

  • Communicate and collaborate with Program Management and Technical Leadership, Engineering Leadership, Manufacturing, Suppliers, and Customer

    Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s and a minimum of 14 years prior relevant experience, or an Advance Degree in a related field and a minimum of 12 years’ experience.

  • 3+ years of expertise in three or more of the following areas: (1) diamond point turning, (2) deterministic optical polishing, (3) free-form diamond turning, (4) topology optimization of additive mirrors, (5) and/or interferometric assembly and alignment.

  • 5+ years of demonstrated ability to (1) to plan/schedule tasks (2) define optical/hardware components, (3) interface with vendors (4) set up and align optical hardware (5) and document/report test results

  • 5+ years of experience giving technical presentations to management and customers

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

    Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with producing patents and publications in the optics industry

  • Experience Leading engineering teams across the life cycle of optical products and assemblies including development, build, and test

  • Ability to influence others to achieve technical and programmatic goals

  • Demonstrated proactive problem solving

  • Knowledge to develop a business strategic vision and execute changes

  • Ability to write technical proposal volumes

  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace

  • Proficiency with optical alignment techniques and tooling

  • Experience with optical component inspection, cleaning, and bonding

  • Strong Interpersonal and multi-tasking skills

  • Familiarity with processes and principals of mechanical and manufacturing engineering
