Job Title: Laboratory Technician/Laboratory Scientist/ Laboratory Assistant (Veterinarian/Animal Health) Location: 8995 East Main St Reynoldsburg 43068 OH Duration: 12+ months Must Have: Bachelor's Degree Role & Responsibilities: Performs tests requiring specialized knowledge, training & judgment within Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) (e.g., PCR, DNA sequencing, VI, VN, CF, MAT, HI, AGID & ELISA testing systems): receives test specimens (e.g. tissue, fluids, swabs) & prepares them for bacterial/fungal culture (e.g. inoculates prepared materials onto or into proper media) and virus isolation and neutralization using tissue culture inoculation techniques and bacterial/fungal culture. Maintains proper culture environment to support microbial growth (e.g. time, temperature); prepares specimens for pathogen identification by PCR, DNA sequencing, FA, electron microscopy or other diagnostic tests; understands theory & techniques of bioinformatics, sera & virus titration, nutritional media & cell concentrations; disposes of materials utilizing appropriate decontamination procedures; reads plates, selects & inoculates appropriate bio-chemicals, interprets findings, establishes final organism identification. Maintains laboratory record system (e.g. initial sample identification, log in, transfer of ID through test system, & final evaluation of results onto proper regulatory forms): maintains inventory control for assigned areas; prepares & maintains various media test reagents & glassware for laboratory use; appropriates & maintains in-house control samples; notifies supervisor of present or potential problems or trends observed with control chart data; conducts research and new assay development/validation, writes scientific report and SOPs; provides training to lower-level scientists and internal and external personnel; performs other related duties as assigned. Carries out QA/QC related activities; records quality control results & prepares control charts. Required Skills: laboratory safety practices. Bacteriology, serology, virology. Micro titer plate reader, micro titer plate washer, auto diluter, inverted fluorescent, light & dissecting microscope, cryostat, autoclave, automated microbiology identification system, bio-safety hood. Define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions. Deal with some abstract but mostly concrete variables. Calculate fractions, decimals & percentages Recognize safety warnings Understand manuals & verbal instruction of a technical matter Prepare accurate meaningful reports. Work in isolation. List of Tasks -- Lab Scientists Molecular: Dishes. Cleaning work areas. Stocking consumables. Printing labels. Running samples, supplies, and waste back and forth between the Animal and Plant buildings. Making aliquots of reagents for testing. Tracking, assembling, and shipping sampling kits. Creating/updating freezer inventories. Labelling and organizing samples before testing. Putting samples and reagents away after testing is complete. Invoicing for supply cost reimbursement. Simple sample processing including adding media to tubes and centrifuging samples. Long-term storage of clinical samples. Creating worksheets and setting up runs on thermal cyclers. Complex sample processing including tissue and semen. Setting up washes and King Fisher Flex for extraction or performing manual spin column nucleic acid extraction. Making master mix for PCR. Loading extraction plates. Running the QIAxcel or gel electrophoresis. Performing conventional and real-time PCRs. Helping with Sanger sequencing prep. Required Education:
