The Red Gate Group is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Reston, VA. In this key role, you will help drive innovation and modernize mission-critical defense IT systems by designing, developing, and implementing robust DevOps solutions. Your work will be vital in transforming how DTRA leverages technology, from integrating cutting-edge solutions to revamping legacy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain custom applications in production environments.

  • Build and support CI/CD pipelines to streamline software delivery.

  • Lead containerization efforts, including building images and orchestrating deployments in Kubernetes.

  • Manage deployment tools using Helm with ArgoCD or Flux, and develop custom Helm charts.

  • Utilize automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) to optimize infrastructure.

  • Implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) to support large-scale deployments and server/network configurations.

  • Oversee container networking, monitoring, storage solutions, and security.

  • Proactively identify vulnerabilities in containerized environments and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Mentor junior team members, sharing best practices in DevOps, cloud technologies, and automation.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, focusing on CI/CD pipeline development and tool support.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and deployment orchestration.

  • 2+ years of experience with Helm, including custom chart creation and deployment management.

  • Proficiency with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.

  • Experience working in infrastructure-as-code environments with an emphasis on automation and continuous delivery.

  • Strong understanding of container security and vulnerability mitigation strategies.

  • Knowledge of container networking, monitoring, and storage solutions.

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Development experience in Java or Python.

  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus/Grafana, ElasticSearch/Kibana, or FluentD.

  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and cloud-native tools.

  • Expertise in CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Git, or TeamCity.

  • Knowledge of various integration protocols, including JSON, REST, and XML.

  • Scripting proficiency in Bash, PowerShell, Python, Groovy, or Ruby.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies (Docker, VMware) and cloud security.

  • Understanding of Linux/UNIX administration and system integration processes.

  • Kubernetes certification and knowledge of classified environment protocols are highly desirable.
