Noblis Occupational Health and Safety Engineer in Reston, Virginia
Responsibilities
Noblis is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Engineer.
Develops, implements and maintains occupational health and safety programs designed to ensure the wellbeing of employees and visitors.
Researches, applies and ensures compliance with applicable regulations and standards, including OSHA.
Develops, delivers, and tracks participation in health and safety related training
Documents and investigates safety incidents, accidents or injuries and implements corrective measures meant to reduce future risk.
Supports records provision or evidence as required for legal proceedings, and
Job Responsibilities:
Safety and Training:
Plans and implements programs to educate and train employees on workplace safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
Regularly inspects company facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
Employs proactive approach to managing workplace safety and accident prevention by utilizing Job Hazard Analysis, accident analysis, inspections and safety education and training.
May manage or participate in the following initiatives and programs to ensure compliance and increase awareness:
Safety Committee
Powered Industrial Truck Program
Hazard Communication
Incident Investigations
Emergency and Severe Weather Response Programs
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Program
Occupational Health:
Has knowledge of diverse health effects, illnesses, and accidents associated with specific job functions; works with business partners within the organization to identify, raise awareness and direct actions to mitigate safety concerns.
Monitor the removal of biological, physical or chemical hazards from a workplace
Provide safety training for employees on policies, regulations and procedures
Advise the company’s business management team on safety issues and compliance in specific projects, contracts, divisions, mission areas and operations
Inspect and verify company compliance with relevant safety regulations
Maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines
Conducts audits and inspections
Analyzes incident reports, metrics and injury case studies in determine changes needed to create a safer environment
Own and manage those actions, initiatives, and processes covered under the Corporate Safety and Illness Prevention Policy.
Provide information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to communicate potential safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
Conducts ergonomic assessments and implements recommended actions to ensure workplace health.
Ability to teach and/or administer First Aid and use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) when appropriate.
Reporting, Compliance and HR Related Responsibilities
May participate in evaluation of employee requests for reasonable accommodations in compliance with the ADA.
Supports the preparation and submission of reports including, but not limited to incident and accident reports, OSHA logs, sustainability reporting, EPA and BLS.
Participates in the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the Treasury and insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time
May liaise with Worker’s Comp health care provider/oversight.
Represents the organization at safety conferences, meetings and regulatory hearings.
Responsible for maintaining and updating all safety records, SOP's and written programs.
Demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset through participation in events and activities that lead to financial gain, time savings, and/or waste reduction for the business.
This is a Hybrid role; The selected candidate should be able to come in to the office one to two times per week!
Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree with 5+ years of related experience; OR Master's degree with 3+ years of related experience; OR Associate degree with 8+ years of related experience; OR high school diploma/GE with 11+ years of experience.
Three to five years safety experience and/or training in an industrial/distribution environment.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations, hazard identification and corrections, environmental regulations, workers compensation and human behavior and physical attributes related to job capabilities.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Ability to obtain the Safety Management Specialist (SMS)
Ability to travel to other Noblis's location (20%-30% travel time)
Desired Qualifications
Degree in Occupational Safety preferred.
OSHA General Industry Certification: CPR and First Aid Certification, HAZWOPPER and OSHA .
Certified Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technical (OHST)
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, HRIS systems and other safety related electronic platforms used for reporting and tracking.

Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked. While monetary compensation is important, it's just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package.
Posted Salary Range
USD $81,900.00 - USD $127,950.00 /Yr.
