Description Robert Half is looking for an ambitious Controller to join a well-respected Defense Software company. In this leadership role, you will manage an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will plan and direct all accounting operational functions, manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assess accounting and internal control systems, and guide departmental staff. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Reston, Virginia area.
How you will make an impact
Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports
Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual
Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Act on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
Assure client expectations are met by reviewing deliverables of self and team
Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required Requirements - Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued
Proven knowledge of CPA Designation
Solid understanding of Oracle NetSuite Technologies
Deep understanding of financial auditing
US GAAP experience preferred
SOX experience preferred
Experience with CPA Designation
Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired
CPA or MBA preferred
Self-starter and strong ethical standards
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Ability to handle multiple projects within strict deadlines
Candidate must possess first-rate analytical, quantitative and social skills
Strong communication and social skills and able to receive criticism well
High attention to detail
Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
