SOS International LLC Ethics & Compliance Counsel in Reston, Virginia

Overview

SOS International LLC (“SOSi”) is seeking an experienced Ethics & Compliance (“E&C”) Counsel, with public contracts expertise, to join our team in Reston, VA. The E&C Counsel will be responsible for supporting and managing all aspects of SOSi’s E&C Department operations as more fully set forth below and is expected to provide the E&C and Legal Departments with sound judgment and recommendations regarding employee questions, concerns, and issues as they arise. As part of the Legal Department, the E&C Counsel also will support legal operations and projects of a broader and more general scope.

Essential Job Duties

  • Serves as the day-to-day attorney and legal advisor regarding ethics and compliance matters, as a liaison between the E&C Department and Legal Department

  • Works closely with other lawyers and Legal Department staff to support and promote E&C Department operations, goals, and objectives

  • Maintains a thorough and current understanding of relevant laws and regulations to ensure corporate operations align with compliance obligations in an evolving regulatory landscape, shares updates and relevant developments with other members of the E&C and Legal Departments

  • Works closely with other lawyers and Legal Department staff on various legal projects to support SOSi’s operations and its business units

  • Monitors the SOSi Compliance email inbox and web-based portal for immediate identification of newly arising employee questions, concerns, and reports; leads development and delivery of responses to same

  • Leads development of monthly newsletter and training content for delivery to SOSi employees

  • Leads regularly held meetings of the E&C Department and working group

  • Develops content for quarterly meetings with senior leadership regarding E&C program, status of projects, and trends in reported employee concerns

  • Develops and maintains an annual E&C Program Action Plan

  • Maintains, calibrates, and updates the E&C Risk Register and assessment process for identifying and prioritizing E&C issues needing monitoring/auditing

  • Advises on legal issues involving government and regulatory compliance

  • Participates in the definition, development, drafting, and continuing legal oversight of corporate policies concerning compliance and related matters

  • Interprets, manages, and updates various internal policies, templates and requirements, including developing and delivering employee training regarding such policies, templates and requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school

  • Member of at least one state bar

  • At least five years’ experience in the U.S. Government Contracts environment, including two years in an ethics & compliance-related role; this experience may have been gained within a law firm environment, or with a U.S. Government Contractor

  • Demonstrates deep knowledge of ethics & compliance sub-disciplines within the field of government contracting

  • High ethical standards and commitment to integrity, as well as maintaining confidentiality and regulatory compliance

  • Ability to serve as a business partner to develop practical solutions to challenging problems

  • Intelligent and articulate individual, with strong writing skills, who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills with non-attorney personnel

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing ethics & compliance issues within a highly diverse (ethnic, cultural, geographic) workforce
