Generac Power Systems Senior Electrical Engineer III - Clean Energy in Reno, Nevada

Generac is seeking a Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer III to contribute to Generac’s home standby battery systems. As a member of our team, you will shape the direction of next generation renewable energy products at Generac. We are looking for someone with genuine passion for engineering products that will fundamentally change the world’s energy infrastructure and enjoy working in an entrepreneurial environment.

This position is ideally based our Reno Nevada office and does require one to be onsite due to the nature of the work and material.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Design innovative electrical hardware as part of renewable energy power electronics and grid connected devices.

Design Power, Analog, Digital circuits, and microcontroller-based systems.

Collaborate with lead engineers to implement circuits derived from first principles thinking. Take ownership of your design from prototyping to production.

Excel at hands on testing and prototyping using basic EE lab hardware (oscilloscope, power supplies, e-loads, logic analyzers, and DMMs)

Perform design validation, testing and documentation.

Collaborate with software, firmware, test and mechanical design engineers throughout the product life cycle (from product inception to manufacturing) to debug and improve products.

Minimal Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with 5 years’ experience in or a master’s degree with 3 years hands on experience

Proficient in Altium 365 schematic and layout design tools and processes

Proficient in circuit modeling using SPICE tool of choice

Proficient in PCB engineering such as DFM/DFT, fabrication and assembly technologies, strain/stress analysis, thermal management, connector/cable engineering, and EMI/EMC compliance

Ability to apply first principles of electrical engineering to complex design challenges.

Design for high reliability results by applying first-rate degree of engineering fundamentals and technical rigor

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with systems engineering and/or requirements management in a product development environment (e.g. the V model).

Experience interfaces and peripherals used in microprocessor based control systems. interfacing techniques (e.g. I2C, SPIbus, EEprom, CAN, DDR memory etc.).

RF/Wireless experience (LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, Thread)

Familiarity compliance standards appliable to PCS Systems

Demonstrated Expertise in Systems Engineering or relevant discipline and strong problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to operate and deliver in a matrixed organization.

Ability to create writing diagrams, schematics, and wiring harness drawings/designs.

Experience with connected device development and integration (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.).

Demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple projects simultaneously while balancing resources.

Experience in power electronic systems (inverters, converters, hybrids).

Experience with Battery Electrification.

Experience in the design layout and packaging of electromechanical components and systems.

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
