Eaton Corporation Lead Project Manager in Reno, Nevada

Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services and Systems division is currently seeking a Lead Project Manager to join our team. This position is based out of any of the locations listed above or from a remote home office in the Pacific or Mountain time zones.

Position Overview:

The Lead Project Manager (PM) is responsible for the overall management and execution of projects. The PM is charged with supporting the sales force, Power Systems Controls (PSC) Engineers and Team Leaders during the entire project lifecycle to ensure a seamless transition from quote into execution. They will have the discipline to create clear and achievable cost, quality, and schedule objectives and follow these objectives through to successful completion.

The PM will support the PSC Project Management Office in the development of tools and implementation of industry best practices for project management, project controls, and coordination. The PM will also provide technical leadership to the district sales & service teams using a working knowledge of low voltage and medium voltage switchgear control design & installation. The PM must be capable of self-managing and directing a team on awarded projects, including service systems integration engineering and technical consultation for customers in the areas of system design, programming, installation, start up, maintenance, repair, training and modification of automated control systems and power management systems.

Skills and responsibilities include:

  • Establish and manage contracts between Eaton and its customers & suppliers

  • Plan, establish, maintain, and regularly update a project schedule for assigned projects

  • Monitor, control, forecast, and report costs on assigned projects within estimated project margin

  • Prepare and present project status information for internal and external stakeholders

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve PSC operational efficiency and standardization

  • Take initiative to develop new project management processes, standards, and tools

  • Prepare, distribute, and follow through with project safety plan

  • Review customer specifications and bid documents, and issue change orders when necessary

  • Assist with order-entry and hand-off to PSC engineers

  • Responsibility for project profit, loss, and forecast

  • Contingency planning expertise and knowledge

  • Ability to create, prioritize, and maintain project action item lists

  • Ability to maintain accurate as-built documentation and punch-lists

  • Technical coordination between internal team members, third-party suppliers, and customers

  • Document control and distribution to customers and suppliers

  • Work evenings or weekends if necessary, to satisfy customers

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution OR minimum 10 years of field service, project management and/or proposal generation experience with electrical power distribution systems and high school diploma

  • Minimum 5 years of project management or project engineering experience

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship

  • Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the work location(s) listed on the posting. No relocation is being offered for this position.

    Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Professional Engineer qualification

  • PMP certified

  • Minimum 5 years of electrical industry related application engineering

Position Criteria:

  • The successful candidate must have a strong focus on customer satisfaction and a track record of successful project execution experience to deliver technical solutions to customers

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must, with ability to be flexible to adjust to changing project conditions

  • Strong computer skills within the Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)

  • Experience with Microsoft Project or Primavera P6

  • Basic understanding of power distribution systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) for the following applications, but not limited to

  • Main-Tie-Main Control

  • Main-Tie-Gen-Main Control

  • Paralleling Switchgear Applications

  • Experience with factory testing and field start-ups

  • Familiar with test equipment and diagnostic instruments for automation and power management systems

  • Have used troubleshooting skills to fix systems that were not functioning properly

  • Experience developing technical proposals according to customer and internal requirements

  • Ability to provide sketches, mark-ups and direction to Sales Engineers

  • Successfully complete and maintain compliance with the company’s safety program

  • Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license

  • Submit to periodic customer required background and drug screenings

Eaton provides a competitive total rewards package commensurate with applicable skills, knowledge, and experience and consistent with internal and external market practices. The annual base salary range for this role is $84,720 - $140,800 a year.
