Exciting Opportunity for a Technical Sales Engineer

This role will take ownership of sales opportunities brought by the commercial team, fully understand the opportunity and develop an optimised winning solution/strategy (in co-ordination with commercial sales), lead communication with the Customer, build relationships and develop the right proposal by listening to the voice of the Customer and internal resources to support that proposal until the order is won.

Within the area of underground transport systems this remains a key driver as the provision of air through ventilation systems is critical to providing a safe environment for both travellers and transport workers.

As a Sales Engineer you will have the responsibility of providing technical fan selection within our range of engineered Axial and Centrifugal fans and executing sales projects from proposal to signing of contract. Our proposal project phase can vary in length and involve interaction with customers and colleagues around the globe.

What will you do?

  • Establish and build personal relationships with the Customer contacts introduced by Commercial team so we can understand the motivation and needs of the Customer. This is expected to require personal visits to meet the Customer face to face

  • After reviewing Customer’s technical and commercial enquiry, engage with the customer directly so their requirements are clarified and fully understood (What are the technical and commercial requirements that we need to meet to win)

  • Find the optimum solution with the support of the engineering team and finalise product selections accordingly considering also the product that will offer the most competitive price taking into consideration sourcing options for that product.

  • Prepare costs sheets and Technical/Commercial tender documentation for centrifugal fans, axial fans, air preheaters and other Howden products using Howden templates to clearly define our optimised proposal to the customer.

  • Collate a list of comments and deviations to Customer’s specification (With engineering input where needed) and clarify scope of supply with Customer prior to offer to ensure offer meets their needs.

  • The role holder will be expected to travel occasionally to other Howden locations and customers on a mixture of planned and ad-hoc business travel, expected to typically amount to 30-40% of their time.

  • Challenges current thinking appropriately.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least 2 years relevant experience or equivalent, so is able to have valuable technical conversations with the Customer.

  • The role holder will be expected to travel occasionally to other Howden locations and customers on a mixture of planned and ad-hoc business travel, expected to typically amount to 30-40% of their time.
