$63,815.00 - $95,723.00

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:

A Data Warehouse Engineer I for the URMC Enterprise Data Management team will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and support of various components for the enterprise data warehouse and associated data sources. Additionally this position provides support for reporting projects as they relate to the URMC’s Clinical, Revenue Cycle Data, Quality and Research areas, and work on projects as assigned by the Enterprise Data Management Team Assistant Director or Manager.

This position will interact with multiple disciplines of the Medical Center including, but not limited to Clinical, Financial, Quality, Research, Operations to insure data services needs are met. Primary responsibilities include support of enterprise data systems by working closely with Data Analysts and IT Server Administrators to build a foundation for integrated analytical applications/extracts in SQL tools (SSIS/SSRS/T-SQL), Virtual and Physical data warehousing, Epic Systems and reporting BI tools. Other responsibilities include adherence to change management and control, service requests intake documentation and process documentation. Assignment of additional projects and requests to perform analysis and programming addressing challenging tasks may be assigned as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops SQL Server by understanding the security model and schema objects including tables, indexes and applied constraints, functions, stored procedures, Views and advances T-SQL programming. Implements ETL (SSIS) to develop jobs for extracting, cleaning, transforming and loading data into data warehouse with guidance.

  • Performs proper testing and validation techniques to insure accuracy and integrity of reported or extracted data and document the unit test and validation processes used. Develops new and supports maintenance of existing reports and data sets contributing to maintaining the report inventory.

  • Utilizes EMR workflows to translate between the transactional systems and the data repository. Utilizes standard dimensional data model optimized for performance and ease of reporting. Provides development support for integrated administration tools for managing and monitoring the Data Warehouse. Learns new technologies related to virtual data warehousing.

  • Works with clinical, financial and business requirements related to reporting applications support for the UR Medicine eco-system of applications. Manages requests and/or components of larger projects with appropriate documentation and status reports. Assists Senior Developers with requests and/or components of larger projects with appropriate documentation and status reports.

  • Obtains and maintains Data Model and/or reporting tools certifications or training as needed and/or maintain current knowledge via self-study for reporting tools and reporting programming techniques. Responds promptly to all problems, keeping in mind the computing environment supports a user community that requires access to critical patient care and business information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science or Engineering required.

  • 2 years of relevant experience required.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • TSQL experience (MSSQL Server) required.

  • Report Development experience (one or more of SQL, SSRS, Crystal Reports, Tableau, Spotfire) required.

  • Experience with healthcare information systems preferred.

  • Experience with Epic Systems preferred.

  • Ability to work professionally and progressively in a matrix organization and to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, as well as the ability and initiative to learn new technologies required.

  • Development, analytical and problem solving skills required.

  • Good customer service orientation and communication skills required.

  • Knowledge of relational data bases and star schemas required.

  • Skills with Microsoft Office (Including Office & Visio). Must be proficient in Microsoft SQL Management and Business Intelligence Studio required.

  • Epic Systems Cogito or Clarity and Caboodle preferred.
