Position Description

Job Summary

What’s the job?

This position will be remote eventually, but to start out the individual must be on site daily at our Peachtree City, GA plant. Once these projects are completed at this site, you will be expected to travel domestically within the U.S. to any of our other roofing plants as required but will be able to work from home. This position requires travel up to 60%.

The incumbent will manage the development and safe implementation of equipment (packages) within capital projects for the CertainTeed Roofing manufacturing plants including but not limited to; procurement, installation and commissioning. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of electrical automation, controls, and electrification of the equipment. This position will require travel up to 60% at times.

The Principal Electrical Engineer reports to the Project Engineering Manager within the Project Management Office (PMO) and works for the Project Managers within the PMO in the assigned project, meeting or exceeding their expectations in terms of scope, cost, schedule, and communication.

  • Develop electrical and controls system design solutions based on engineering principles and customer requirements.

  • Lead the assigned capital packages related to design, capital requests, procurement (including, scope of works documents, contracts and change orders), budget, schedule, installation and commissioning.

  • Provide mentorship and training to Project Engineer’s regarding the electrical design phase of the projects.

  • Support Project Managers on assigned projects led by Roofing TIP or led by the Roofing plant teams to deliver installations safely, on time and on budget.

  • In collaboration with the Technical Office, support the development of designs and processes to deliver the best performance and lowest cost giving due regard to safety, operations, maintenance, and legal compliance.

  • Provide business case and budget estimates to cost justify capital projects.

  • Lead continuous improvement goals in collaboration with the Operational Excellence Team and the Technical Office.

  • Assist in the startup and commissioning of equipment and electrical systems onsite.

  • Ensure the efficient transfer of projects to the Operations team, including all documentation, training support, spare parts packages, preventive maintenance manuals, troubleshooting guides, etc.

  • Create required schedules while maintaining and communicating project status to meet company goals.

  • Follows the Project Execution Manual Check Lists (Stage gate process) applying the standard tools at each step of the project (risk register, change register, etc).

  • Maintain fluid communication and collaboration with other members of Roofing TIP: Project Management Office PMO, Technical Office, OPEX team, Loss Prevention Team, and other corporate teams such as Operations, Quality, R&D or Safety during project’s life cycle.

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering field; Master’s Degree or PE preferred

  • 12+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment; capital equipment engineering roles preferred

  • Considerable experience and advanced knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs in a manufacturing environment

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of all types of engineering drawings

  • Considerable experience configuring, programming, and troubleshooting PLCs (typically Allen-Bradley and Siemens), and industrial sensors

  • Considerable experience configuring and designing HMI/OIT systems. (RSView, PanelView, Factory Talk, Ignition, and Wonderware)

  • Considerable experience configuring and designing Variable and Fixed Speed Motor Controls

  • Considerable experience configuring and designing Motion Controls. (Parker, PacSci, Yaskawa and Allen-Bradley)

  • Considerable experience applying Industry Standards such as OSHA, EN and ISO Machine Safety, NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, UL 508A, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE and ISA

  • Familiar with voltages ranging from 24v to 480v 3 phase.

  • Preferred candidate may have operational site and project execution experience
