Organization Overview:

Eli Lilly’s Virtual Medical Hub (VMH) offers a focused, first-in-industry approach to the rapidly increasing demand for Medical information and the evolving needs and preferences of healthcare providers in receiving that information. Equipped with the same scientific and clinical expertise as their Field-based MSL counterparts, Virtual MSLs are responsible for ensuring that all inbound requests receive a timely response that best synthesizes the latest thinking in the specific disease state, Lilly competitive compounds, and broader landscape within the associated therapeutic area (TA). Virtual MSLs thus have the same impact as a traditional Field-based MSL role but with a concentrated focus on inbound engagement and the personal flexibility of a remote working environment.

Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities: This job description is intended to provide a general overview of the job requirements at the time of preparation. The job requirements of any position may change over time and may include additional responsibilities not specifically described in the job description. Consult with your supervisor or N+1 regarding your actual job responsibilities and any related duties that may be required for the position.

Scientific and clinical knowledge

The VMH team’s objective is to provide healthcare providers with the required scientific and clinical knowledge that most meaningfully and precisely addresses their inbound requests such as addressing clinical care gaps for their patients or clarifying nuanced clinical or research questions. This role requires efficient and precise synthesis of the latest research on products, disease states, and standard of care for specific indications and TAs. Such a skillset and the underlying depth of expertise is typically acquired through substantial research experience or clinical training and requires continuous learning to maintain the highest level of technical expertise within a given TA. This continuous learning will enable engagement in scientific exchange to respond to the diverse medical information needs based on provider requests. As a result, the VMH team will establish itself as a reliable, trusted, resource of unbiased, accurate, up-to-date, medical and scientific information.

Inbound with select outbound engagement

The Virtual MSL role is mainly focused on provider support. While a significant portion of a Field-based MSLs’ time is spent planning their engagement schedule, commuting to congresses or meetings, and deciding which providers must be notified of updates and new materials, their Virtual MSL counterparts concentrate on engaging providers and capturing insights via inbound engagement and select outbound engagement. Through the application of emotional intelligence, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of scientific and medical content, the VMH team will act as one of the primary interfaces between Lilly Medical and many HCPs to deliver a positive experience, support clinical trial awareness, and address clinical care gaps for improved patient outcomes. The insights that the Virtual MSLs and their field-based counterparts distill, synthesize, and log will inform a feedback loop to improve Field Medical strategy, communication, and impact.

Strategic vision and leadership

VMH team members effectively synthesize and communicate actionable customer/clinical insights to internal Lilly Medical and cross-functional teams. They use good judgement in decision-making and escalate issues as appropriate. They cultivate internal networks and collaborate effectively across functions including working closely with other field-based colleagues. They embrace change, exercise strategic agility with evolving business needs and utilize innovative resources.

Virtual MSLs should work collaboratively with peers and other Lilly colleagues. Within their own team, they are expected to contribute to team goals and be an effective teammate. A Virtual MSL will execute the role compliantly, adhering to all governing internal and external requirements, procedures, and laws, demonstrating good judgment.
