The Drug Product Division (DPD) of the Pharma Services Group, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific is focused on providing drug product manufacturing services from initial feasibility and clinical trials through regulatory approval and commercial supply for our customers, globally. Our services include oral solid dose (tablets, capsules, and softgels), sterile fill finish (vials, syringes, and cartridges), and the associated packaging and testing. Our customers range from small biotech/pharmaceutical start-ups to large pharmaceutical companies for the development and commercialization of new medicines and therapies across the globe.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Drug Product Division (DPD) Lead Counsel Europe, the Associate Corporate Counsel will primarily support the European DPD sites, including Ferentino and Monza, Italy; Tilburg, Netherlands; Bourgoin, France; and Swindon, United Kingdom. As part of the global DPD Legal team, this role may also support our North American DPD sites located in: Bend, Oregon; Toronto, Canada; Whitby, Canada; Greenville, North Carolina; Cincinnati, Ohio; Manati, Puerto Rico; and High Point, North Carolina.

This is an on-site/hybrid from our Glasgow site or 100% remote role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provides front-line legal support for site operations throughout the DPD Europe sites

  • Provides legal advice for site operations in DPD Europe on a broad range of legal, regulatory, and compliance areas, including commercial, anti-trust, regulatory, licensing, controlled substance, quality, and data privacy.

  • Assesses legal risks and provides recommendations and alternative mitigating resolutions to Sites and senior management.

  • Advises on commercial/business complex disputes, including vendor and client escalations, investigations, and dispute resolution.

  • Collaborates with Group Contracting team, Regional counsel, and Functional counsel as needed for support on matters.

  • Supports contracts related to client services and sourcing, including proposals, SOWs, etc. including through drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts as requested.

  • Serves as the subject matter expert to lead, anticipate, and drive solutions for a range of legal and business issues.

  • Provides training to other functional groups within DPD on contract requirements and other legal matters.

  • Collaborates with project teams to drive the execution of certain strategic projects and initiatives related to business growth and expansion of business services within Europe.

Experience

  • Qualified as a lawyer in a European jurisdiction (preferably a UK jurisdiction) from an internationally recognised University / law school

  • Proficient in the English Language, both verbal and writing

  • Strong PQE (preferably in-house or international law firm) with a commercial focus gained from within a fast paced consumer good and/or other multinational companies. Global life science, health care or highly-regulated company is a plus.

  • Customer-centric and solutions-oriented approach in supporting both external and internal clients while protecting the best interest of the company.

  • Ability to deliver strong results with limited resources, under tight deadlines, and with a high degree of accuracy, in a fast-paced intense environment.

  • Excellent leadership, management, and communication skills, must enjoy working in a team environment.

  • Builds an inclusive environment that seeks diverse viewpoints and collaborators.

  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and document comparison software

  • Travel is estimated 15-20%.

  • Law firm experience also a plus.
