Your role:

CBC Saskatchewan is looking for an associate producer to join our team working on The 306 , our province-wide afternoon radio current affairs show.

As a member of a close-knit team, you will produce compelling radio interviews that provide audiences with the news they need to know each afternoon, and create dynamic video treatments that attract new audiences on our video platforms. You will have an abundance of original ideas and story pitches that reflect your desire to go beyond the regular news agenda and the standard buzz on social media. You will work with colleagues in news, social and video to expand the show’s reach to new audiences, and find innovative ways to spark meaningful conversations with our community.

You are passionate about championing stories and sources from Saskatchewan’s multicultural communities, and you know that every story needs to include a range of perspectives.

As someone with a deep working knowledge of Saskatchewan, you understand its political landscape and its resource-based economy, and your work highlights how these issues affect the day-to-day lives of the people who live here.

Whatever your assignment is, the thrill of the chase and the adrenaline rush of tight daily deadlines fuel your success.

Your responsibilities:

  • Pitch and produce original story ideas for current affairs programming that deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices, and also serve audiences on our visual platforms.

  • Chase and book guests for The 306, conducting research and interviews, gathering audio, writing radio scripts, and packaging and presenting content.

  • Write, edit and package current affairs content for our video platforms.

  • Direct the live radio program from our Regina studio.

  • Appear on the radio program, as required.

  • Chase breaking stories while the show is on air.

  • Provide support for on-air personalities.

  • Ensure listener feedback is turned around quickly to be reflected on the show.

  • Plan, coordinate and execute video treatments of 306 contenty

Your profile:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced daily news environment.

  • Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong story ideas.

  • An ability to manage multiple story chases

  • A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Saskatchewan.

  • An understanding of Saskatchewan’s political landscape, economic drivers and demographics.

  • A proven work ethic and a positive team-first attitude.

  • Superior writing skills for both current affairs radio and video programming.

  • Experience and proven ability with various technical platforms such as audio and video editing.

  • Willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all CBC platforms (TV, radio, digital).

  • Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; a standout colleague.

  • A strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company, other classes considered an asset.

  • University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of two years of recent, related experience.

  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
