A Brief Overview
The Sterile Processing Technician II is responsible for supporting the operations of the Sterile Processing Department for Stanford University Medical Center, Lucille Packard Children's Hospital and OSC. Participate in all activities/duties of the Department by following policy and procedure for the decontamination, cleaning, instrument assembly, packaging, sterilization, transport and storage of all patient care instrumentation and equipment. Able to assemble all types of instrument sets, participates in the departmental patient safety and performance improvement initiatives and performs related duties as assigned, including Lead relief.

What you will do
Assures the prudent use of resources and efficiently maintains instrument and processing supply inventory.
Checks sterilization/decontamination equipment to make sure appropriate parameters were met.
Consistently demonstrates required competencies. Mentors, trains, or develops peers or team members to improve competencies. Viewed as a role model by others.
Demonstrates and maintains in-depth knowledge of surgical instrument processing, including the assembly of complex surgical instrument sets and reprocessing of flexible endoscopes.
Follows SHC Safety and Infection Prevention policy and guidelines for self, patients, visitors and employee.
Participates in and complies with departmental and institutional regulatory requirements, policy and procedure pertaining to: quality control, quality assurance and preventive maintenance. Actively participates in quality improvement issues with appropriate monitoring and documentation.
Performs duties by following the policy and procedures of SHC, OSC and LPCH and the Sterile Processing Department.
Performs technical tasks while conforming to standard procedures and methods used to decontaminate, disinfect, assemble, sterilize and distribute instrumentation, within the applicable Federal, State and other regulatory agencies including JCAHO.
Prepares production report of activity and apprises Lead Technician of issues and needs. Manages information utilizing appropriate manual or electronic systems for shift work activity.
Pro-actively influences, trains or mentors others to contribute to Patient Safety practices. Recognized by others for leading or championing Patient Safety issues.
Provides and maintains accurate documentation of departmental records.
Works collaboratively with peers to achieve department goals and organizations vision.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Experience Qualifications
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions
Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus
Ability to solve problems and identify solutions
Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job
Knowledge of and experience with, care, handling, and assembly of surgical instrumentation, sterilization practices, and surgical supplies
Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes
Licenses and Certifications
CRCST - Certified Registered Central Service Technician within 180 Days or
CSPDT - Sterile Process/Dist Tech

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $34.06 - $38.33 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
