Northrop Grumman Staff Aeroacoustics Survivability Engineer (Level 5) in Redondo Beach, California

We are tasked with developing, testing, and implementing new materials, technologies, and concepts, that enable the most lethal, intelligent, and collaborative systems to penetrate and operate in enemy airspace with impunity. We work hand in hand with a broad swath of other engineering disciplines to design, develop, manufacture, and sustain these systems. Our responsibilities span the full Systems Engineering lifecycle-from research and development to modeling and analysis, from static / component test to dynamic flight test, from manufacturing floor support to field repairs and maintenance, and more. We work across multiple spectrums-from RF (Radio Frequency), to IR (Infrared) and Visual, to Acoustic. Our engineers have the opportunity to work in various environments-behind desks, in highly specialized labs, at indoor and outdoor test and measurement ranges, and at overseas operational locations. Our team is absolutely critical to the cradle-to-grave success of our cornerstone programs and the programs of the future, and your role on our team would be equally critical to our success as an organization. Essential Duties:

  • Provide Low Observable system performance using analytical tools and measured data

  • Develop and integrate acoustic reduction technologies

  • Develop and implement predictive analysis codes; builds and tests physical models; designs, develops, and builds test and verification equipment; and develops, tests, and integrates acoustic solutions

  • Conduct planning and "roadmapping" for the development of novel acoustics technologies and

  • innovative aircraft designs

  • Works closely with other disciplines to optimize the integration of acoustic technologies on existing and future aircraft

Basic Qualifications: (the must have's)

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline and 14 years of related engineering experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM and 12 years of related engineering experience

  • Applied physics and/or aircraft survivability knowledge; or comprehensive understanding of sound generation and acoustics transmission through space/materials

  • Experience in noise modeling of aircraft components such as fans, propellers, turbine engines,

  • internal combustion engines, landing gears, control surfaces, and airframes/wings

  • Experience in acoustic test/measurement , data processing, and analysis

  • Experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and CFD tools (e.g. PowerFLOW)

  • Basic competency in C++, MATLAB, Python, Labview, and/or other programming languages

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • A current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher is required to start, with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP) within a reasonable amount of time to meet business needs

Preferred Qualifications: (the nice to have's)

  • Experience in computer aided design (CAD) software such as NX and CATIA

  • Experience with National Instruments PXI and cRIO data collection systems

  • Experience in acoustic phased-array data collection and processing

  • Knowledge of structural acoustics and vibration

  • Project management skills (e.g. planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, proposal

  • An active U.S. Government issued DoD Top Secret security clearance and/or previous SAP

Salary Range: $165,000 - $247,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
