Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector is seeking a Principal Software Engineer. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA. The selected candidate will lead a team of developers to build the next generation naval aviation mission planning system using Scaled Agile Framework and DevSecOps processes.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading a team of developers to design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions

  • Lead the developers in conducting multidisciplinary research and collaborates with UX/UI designers and software architects in the planning, design, development of mission planning software within Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment pipelines

  • Work with external companies and government stakeholders in a Scaled Agile Framework Agile Release Train for planning and executing each Program Increment and Iteration

  • Lead integration efforts and discussions with customer and external system developers

  • Attend daily stand ups and assists members of Agile scrum team to meet Iteration and Program Increment goals.

  • Communicate plans, progress, and metrics to internal and external management

This requisition will be filled at Principal Software Engineer level:

  • Principal Software Engineer - Bachelor's degree in STEM (and 5 years of relevant experience; or 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD) or additional years of experience in lieu of degree may be considered

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active Secret Security Clearance is required

  • Experience in Software Engineering, e.g., CONOPS development, requirements analysis, decomposition and allocation, interface definition, and trade studies.

  • Experience as a lead on software systems integration efforts

  • Understanding of all phases of software development, and practical experience in an Agile / Dev*Ops environment

  • Experience in scripting/programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, Visual Basic, .Net, Java, C, and C#

  • Experience with DevSecOps pipeline tools and concepts such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment, Quality gate, Jenkins, and Docker

  • Experience with Agile tools such as Jira, Git

  • Understanding of software design principles, functional programming and Object-Oriented programming paradigms

Following are good to have, but are not required:

  • Experience with requirement analysis and decomposition on a software-based effort

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in an Agile/SAFe leadership role (Scrum Master, Product Owner, Release Train Engineer, e.g.)

  • Experience with Cloud infrastructure technology such as Azure.

  • Experience with containerization, including Docker and Kubernetes

  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) development

  • Experience with UI/UX development

  • Knowledge of military mission planning systems

Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
