JBT Corporation System Support Engineer in Redmond, Washington


JBT is a leader in the food processing automation industry, and we are looking for experienced engineers who can bridge the gap between our R&D engineering team and our field service and support teams. Our software drives robotic water-jet cutting equipment using computer vision for the food processing industry. You will be working with a multidisciplinary software team that focuses on machine control and development on a real-time operating system. We are a fast-paced division of a large technology company, excited to work and experiment with new technologies. We have a wide range of products including harvesting robots, waterjet portioners, blade portioners, scanning/inspection systems, and IoT services.

You should be a self-starter with a bias towards independent problem solving. This will include identifying and resolving issues. You will be responsible for diving deep into the details of issues while developing solutions for our customers. You will drive prioritization of operational issues.

The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, have superior verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, able to juggle multiple tasks at once, able to work independently and can maintain professionalism under pressure. You must be able to accurately prioritize projects, make sound judgments, and work to improve the customer experience.

Essential Duties and Percent of Time Spent:

Act as a liaison between Engineering and other technical departments to provide level 3 remote support, engineering guided solutions, and technical updates.


Administer, troubleshoot, and control all installed systems using remote desktop, SSH, and system error/event data.


Utilize diagnostic tools and debug files to duplicate field issues within a lab environment to assist software engineers identify the cause of the issue and steps to reproduce it.


Maintain systems support technical documentation.


Ownership of software/hardware products, testing, and approving software release candidates.


Work with internal software and electrical engineers to drive improvement of our existing hardware/software stack.


Participate actively during team meetings and reach out independently to other team members, sharing knowledge and assisting in troubleshooting.


Identify trends in issues and make recommendations for ways to eliminate or reduce high frequency issues, streamline the support process, or reduce utilization of developer time.


Occasional travel to customer sites, remote company facilities.




  • Experience providing systems support for customer-facing software products.

  • Linux, Unix systems administration experience.

  • Experience with Git version control system.

  • Proficiency in shell scripting.

  • Proficiency in at least one development language (C preferred).

  • Excellent technical and non-technical communication (oral and written) and collaboration skills.

  • Experience utilizing system health, performance monitoring, and software management tools.

  • Technical curiosity – willingness to explore and learn new technologies, patterns, and practices.

  • Self-motivated and able to learn and operate without supervision.

  • A strong desire to produce and deliver excellent software that solves business problems.

    Experience:Minimum 1 year experience as a Systems Support Engineer or equivalent experience.

    Education:Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or related field(s) or equivalent experience.
