Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft’s Cloud business is expanding, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth including AI! CSCP’s vision is to empower customers to achieve more by delivering Cloud Capacity Differentiated at Scale. Our mission is to deliver capacity for all cloud services predictably through intelligent systems driven by continuous learning and a world class organization. The CSCP Organization is responsible for traditional supply chain functions such as Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, but also manages supportability (spares), decommissioning and disposition of Data center assets worldwide. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 200 datacenters supporting services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries worldwide.

We are looking for a Software Engineer II to help us build our Supply Chain Sustainability platform (Tierra). Tierra is a key piece of the puzzle in Microsoft meeting its 2030 sustainability goal of becoming carbon negative, water positive and zero waste. Beyond Tierra, we are building software systems that give Microsoft, the ability to succeed in an ever-changing business environment. We are looking for an engineer to push our systems architecture further and innovate in the areas of customer experience, Sustainability, Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation of our processes and systems, data driven solutions, while continuously improving operational excellence (security, resiliency, scalability, costs). Successful candidates will be able to combine their deep technical skills, collaboration skills, customer obsession, and leadership skills to design and deliver world-class software platforms that delight our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with a team of highly capable software engineers, partner teams, product managers, UX designers, leadership, and business stakeholders.

  • Drive the quality end-to-end from feature requirements, design, development, testing, and operations.

  • Lead the design and implementation of world class platforms and products with high quality on schedule.

  • Continuously improve engineering practices and processes to ensure security, scalability, performance, experience, and compliance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of software development experience, with a proven track record of delivering large-scale software systems.

  • 2+ years of experience developing highly scalable distributed systems in a cloud environment.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of software development experience, with a proven track record of delivering large-scale software systems.

  • 3+ years of experience developing highly scalable distributed systems in a cloud environment.

  • 3+ years of experience building applications on Azure cloud.

  • Deep technical expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g. C#, JavaScript etc.) and software development frameworks.

  • Understanding of software engineering principles, distributed systems, design patterns, data structure & algorithms, software security, reliability, and performance optimization.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, capable of motivating and leading technical teams, and collaborating with non-technical stakeholders.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
