Microsoft Corporation Senior Data Scientist in Redmond, Washington

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our team in Redmond, WA at Microsoft, Bing Discovery and Selection.

You will be part of the team building an entirely new system for web search indexing backend, which will be orders of magnitude larger and faster than anything that currently exists. The new indexing pipeline is built on top of a petabyte-scale table and incremental processing infrastructure. The goal of the system is to process billions of documents a day with end-to-end latency of seconds to minutes. To design the new system, we are applying a combination of approaches from the fields of distributed computing, network programming, algorithm optimization, and machine learning.

Responsibilities

Our core set of engineering challenges include:

  • Discover, crawl from the web, and Index billions of documents in a fast and efficient way.

  • Build a Document Understanding platform that partner teams can use to plugin to run their classifiers, models and allow friction free experimentation.

  • Provide Web Graph / Index as a service for Microsoft teams, utilize and build rich applications.

  • Parsing and classifying billions of web documents, do encoding & language detection, script segmentation and sentence breaking.

  • Use LLMs (Large Language Models), NLP (Natural Language Processing), ML (Machine Learning), DL (Deep Learning) techniques to extract document data, NER (Named Entity Recognition), POS (Part-of-Speech tagging), parsing, clustering, QnA (Question and Answer), etc.

  • Enable everyday experimentation on petabytes of web index data using Big Data technologies

  • Design and build automated systems to scale your ideas and monitor their impact.

  • Collaborate with other teams in Microsoft and work with other engineers, scientists and product managers.

  • Enable ML applied scientists with experimentation infrastructure including tools for configuring and launching experiments, dashboards, live monitoring, and custom diagnosis.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

  • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

  • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or preferred qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

  • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results))

  • OR equivalent experience.

Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
