Microsoft Corporation Senior Cloud Network Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft is on a mission to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Our culture embraces a growth mindset, inspires excellence, and encourages teams and leaders to bring their best each day. As a result, we create life-changing innovations that impact billions of lives around the world. You can help us achieve our mission.

The Intelligent Conversation and Communications Cloud (IC3) powers billions of real-time customer conversations in products across the Microsoft ecosystem (including Skype, Teams, and Dynamics) and third-party apps and experiences through Azure Communication Services. Our services are the foundation for reliable and high-quality audio/video calling, meeting, and messaging scenarios on desktop, mobile, web, and embedded endpoints. IC3’s mission is to make conversations more intelligent, creating best-in-class productivity tools for the modern workplace with the promise that every call, meeting, or chat makes the next one better.

Our team is looking for passionate, self-motivated Senior Cloud Network Engineer with experience in microservices who want to build tooling, processes, automation, and engineering infrastructure to empower IC3 developers across the globe to build secure and compliant services trusted by both consumers and highly-regulated enterprises.

Our mission is “zero-click compliance” – identifying and remediating compliance and security issues automatically and continuously on service owners' behalf and providing clear data to service owners, security teams, and leadership on the state of our Azure services to reduce business risk.

We’re a small team of engineers accountable for taking solutions end-to-end from problem statement to prototype to internal product and perhaps external product. We’re not quite a security team, not quite a compliance team, not quite a Site Reliability team, and yet do all the above. Our engineers have vast amounts of autonomy, ownership of large-scale and high-impact projects, and make decisions on behalf of the entire organization.

Responsibilities

Work closely with geographically distributed teams across Microsoft (including IC3, Azure, and Office) and cross-functional disciplines (including developer, security, privacy, and compliance teams) to:

  • Understand Microsoft’s and IC3’s security, privacy, and compliance requirements, both for our global consumer and enterprise offerings and for specialized government, healthcare, or financial customers worldwide

  • Build tools, processes, and architectures to help developers meet these requirements effortlessly

  • Support microservice owners in onboarding and configuring network isolation and network protection solutions

  • Evaluate the benefits of new networking offerings and strategies to adopt them across the organization

  • Improve IC3’s strategies for global network routing, content acceleration, and content distribution

  • Evaluate the business continuity of IC3 services under degraded networking conditions

  • Build a data-focused culture and rhythm of business to systematically reduce risk

  • Advocate for internal engineers and their experiences building, continuously improving and running services

  • Work in a regulated environment and for building compliance and security by design

  • Experience with global traffic distribution, content acceleration, and/or CDN solutions such as Akamai, Cloudflare, or Azure Frontdoor

  • Onboard commercially-available L3 or L7 DDoS(Distributed Denial Of Service) or WAF(Web Application Firewall) protection for web services

  • Debug issues with the routing table for resources within/across a VPC(Virtual Private Cloud) or VNET (Vitual Network)

  • Architect and implement private network connectivity for resources with VPN, Private Link, Direct Connect or ExpressRoute

  • Manage cloud-based firewall solutions like Azure Firewall or AWS Network Firewall

  • Turn incomplete, conflicting, or ambiguous inputs into solid plans

  • Make effective, data-driven tradeoffs between competing businesses needs and between quick fixes and full-scale solutions

  • Have experience designing easy-to-use solutions to problems with complex constraints

  • Demonstrate capability to work cross-functionally in a global organization with diverse partners in different time zones

Qualifications
