Copilots have emerged as transformative technologies that boost productivity and thus empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. To drive these generative Artificial Intelligence experiences, Microsoft relies on ambitious advances in applied Artificial Intelligence research. The Business Copilot Artificial Intelligence team is changing how business users interact with various Microsoft Business Applications, including Dynamics 365 / Power Platform and Microsoft Office.

Our team is chartered with building various Multi-modal models that are shipped across these various Microsoft product lines. Our goal is to bring the state-of-the-art Machine Learning research to Microsoft products. The team works at the intersection of large language models and traditional deep learning, building Artificial Intelligence models on large scale structured and unstructured data. We apply deep learning techniques on real-world datasets and build and deploy models using the latest cloud technologies.

We are looking for a Senior Applied Scientist, Business Copilot Artificial Intelligence Team, to drive the data science efforts in delivering compelling copilot experiences within various areas in Microsoft Business Applications.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the design and development of specialized ML, Gen AI, NLP models and LLM-based solutions that are optimized for both batch and streaming data processes.

Experiment with different solution alternatives for the models' quality improvement (from data collection, preprocessing, to running tests).

Work on fine-tuning, and prompt engineering, using NLP and other AI techniques.

Collaboration with data science and tech divisions throughout the model's design phase and its subsequent deployment.

Develop comprehensive evaluation systems and tools designed to validate model performance, ensuring precision, uniformity, and dependability.

Document the modeling methodologies and protocols to serve as a repository for future reference and collective intellectual capital.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research

  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of enterprise experience in any combination of following technologies: machine learning, deep learning, NLP, information retrieval, LLM/SLM

  • 2+ years experience creating and shipping NLP models

  • 2+ years experience defining metrics and improving them

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of academic or industry experience in areas of machine learning, data science with preference for Natural Language Processing

  • 4+ years of experience in C#, C++, Java or Python.

  • Research experience (publications) in the following areas is preferred machine learning, deep learning, NLP, data mining, information retrieval.

  • 1+ years of experience working with LLM/SLM models

Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
