The Trust Experiences Compliance (TEC) team within Windows + Devices at Microsoft is delivering Windows features that help hundreds of millions of people worldwide protect their privacy while using Microsoft’s industry-leading AI products. TEC is hiring a Principal Software Engineering Manager-Windows to help build and ship products which re-define best-in-class privacy for our customers and to help make Windows the most trusted AI driven OS on the planet!

As a Principal Software Engineering Manager-Windows, you will work across product and technical boundaries to build intuitive privacy features that are easy to use, protect customers, and position Windows at the forefront of the AI revolution. You will lead a team that builds features to help Microsoft customers protect their privacy, understand how their data is being used, and control who gets access to their sensitive info. Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering team in navigating complex engineering systems to ship Windows OS features on time with high quality.

  • Manage, mentor and grow the careers of your team.

  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to build exceptional consumer-grade experiences.

  • Design, architect, build and manage features for highly scalable services and responsive user interface.

  • Review and provide guidance to ongoing design, architecture, standards and methods for OS components, operating services and systems; assess design and code changes to drive improvements.

  • Analyze data from hundreds of millions of devices to measure the impact of the changes and recommend opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years software design and development experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of working experience with C/C++.

  • 2+ years of experiences shipping features on Windows.

  • 2+ years of team leadership or people management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of C++ design/architecture skills with expertise in Windows Shell/UX development.

  • Experience with cross group design and coordination. 

  • 10+ years software engineering experience delivering world-class system software.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
