Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Lead – Xbox Graphics in Redmond, Washington

The Xbox Graphics team is growing and seeking a Principal Software Engineering Lead - Xbox Graphics developer who is excited to work on state-of-the-art graphics, emulation, and compression systems.   • Oversees partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams for multiple solutions or product lines. Leverages a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes.

  • Oversees teams and provides technical leadership of design, architecture, and key technical decisions. Holds ownership of products and systems, quality, and customer satisfaction. Guides efforts and design discussions for overall system architecture of entire products/solutions that are deeply complex and often ambiguous. Enables and fosters cross-team communications and resolves conflicts between teams.

  • Develops best practices for others to review debugging tools, logs, telemetry, unit and functional automated testing, and other methods, and acts as an expertise for others to verify assumptions through writing and developing code proactively before issues occur and reactively as issues occur across products and multiple teams.

  • Builds and maintains impactful partnerships, driving collaboration with key partners across Microsoft ecosystem of engineers. Acts as a key contact for leadership to ensure communication with partners' expectations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, HLSL, GLSL

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

  • 4+ years of experience working at low levels of software stack, device driver development, emulation systems, firmware, and/or integration of hardware and software.

  • 4+ years of experience developing graphics, firmware, compression, or emulation systems

Cloud Background Check:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years people management experience.

  • 8+ years of experience working at low levels of software stack, device driver development, emulation systems, firmware, and/or integration of hardware and software.

  • Knowledge and experience with graphics and GPU hardware

  • Experience and knowledge in operating system development in either user-mode or kernel-mode development.

  • Proficient communication/customer interfacing skills and the ability to deal with ambiguity and prioritize issues.

Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
