Within MTP (Microsoft Threat Protection), the Applications and Identity Hub unites three of the Defender products: MDA (Defender for Cloud Apps) protecting the use of SaaS applications within our customer environments, MDI (Defender for Identity) validating, verifying and protecting both user identities​, and MDO (Defender for Office) safeguarding organizations in their use of collaboration tools against malicious threats posed by malicious messages, links (URLs), and content.  We are looking for a motivated Principal Software Engineer with a background in COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) optimizations to work across the A&I Hub products as a COGS champion. The candidate will be responsible for working to reduce COGS through all stages of software lifecycle across all the A&I Hub services. Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert in ownership and domain areas

  • Drive cross-team collaboration with globally distributed teams.

  • Responsible for working with cross-functional teams to drive optimizations in COGs through each component on the system.

  • Establishes, influences, and ensures policies and procedures for cost optimization across the A&I hub and MTP

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Software Engineers, Program Managers, Security researchers, and Data Scientists.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of software design and development experience with services.

  • 3+ Experience with cloud services, preferred Azure

  • 5+ years of experience in development principles and patterns.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 12+ years of experience as a software engineer working on enterprise software and a proven track record of having shipped commercially successful software products & services.

  • 7+ years of experience in development principles and patterns.

  • Experience writing services and micro-services on middle- or back-end tier.

  • Analytical skills with a systematic and structured approach to software design.

  • Commitment to building reliable and well-tested code.

  • Experience with COGs optimization of large-scale distributed systems

Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
