Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Architect in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft significantly expanded its efforts in the intelligent cloud, and Microsoft Artificial Intelligence (AI) Services is at the forefront! The Azure Language AI team in AI Services is looking for an extremely talented and highly motivated Principal Software Architect to work on large scale AI services in areas such as machine translation, language understanding, text summarization, few-shot learning with the latest and greatest large language models (LLM)s and small language models. In the Azure Language AI team, you will work closely with world-class researchers and engineers across Microsoft to create the best AI products with new break throughs in Natural Language Processing (NLP).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the requirements, analysis, and development efforts for engineering projects, solving complex business problems while leveraging Azure AI technologies and Agile Scrum methodology.

  • Effectively manage tradeoffs between cost, schedule, roadmaps and business impact, incorporate seasoned and up-to-date expertise in AI runtime, large scale web services, cybersecurity, distributed services, infrastructure, and components, partner with and influence a multi-disciplinary stakeholder group to envision and formalize effective engineering system and solution architecture and deliver accurate design specifications.

  • Collaborate with architects, scientists and engineers to define and prioritize workstreams as appropriate across functional areas and drive the adoption and implementation of cohesive architecture patterns, designs, and best practices; perform technical architecture reviews and support security and risk assessment as a trusted advisor.

  • Spearhead the development and evolution of architectural patterns for resilient, scalable and secure cloud services and solutions Language AI

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of software industry and cross-company best practices, technologies, architectures, and emerging technologies, and how these can apply to our product, business, service, and technology stack.  

  • Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritize workload effectively, and thrive in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of experience designing, building and supporting highly scalable, highly available and fault tolerant workloads in Azure.

  • 5+ years of AI experience.

  • 4+ years of technical leadership experience in delivering complex, time sensitive initiatives across organizational boundaries.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams, such as product managers, designers, researchers, engineers, and stakeholders, with proven communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated technical skills and knowledge in large language model, deep learning, transformer models, data engineering, cloud stack technologies, information fusion, large-scale machine learning models.

  • Experience in Language AI areas including machine translation, language understanding, text summarization, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability in self-learning, entering new domain, managing through uncertainty in an innovative team environment.

  • Demonstrated design, problem solving skills and drive to success

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
