Welcome to the Applied Research arm of Microsoft Security AI Research (MSECAIR), where we engage in research to create truly differentiating products and services across Microsoft’s Security Division. In the 18 months since our organization’s founding, we have driven the research behind Microsoft Security Copilot and a suite of both foundational and specialized AI models. Our project portfolio includes a variety of short-to-long-term horizon projects with applications across Microsoft’s security suite. We oversee and coordinate AI investments for Microsoft Security; work with engineering partners to accelerate and scale security research by making AI tools and data more accessible to security researchers; serve as Microsoft Security’s central hub for industry and academic partnerships; and drive thought leadership efforts to let the world know about our trailblazing work in security science and AI.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead Cutting-Edge Research: Drive the development and execution of innovative research projects in machine learning and artificial intelligence for cybersecurity, focusing on building Autonomous Agents to address cloud security challenges and opportunities.

  2. Innovative Solution Design: Leverage security data from various sources and domains to design and implement solutions that achieve rigorous metrics and address customer needs.

  3. Extraordinary Communication: Communicate the results and impact of your research to leadership and external audiences through publications, presentations, and demos.

  4. Collaboration and Integration: Collaborate with product groups and other stakeholders to transfer your research and development solutions into scalable and robust products and services.

  5. Mentorship and Leadership: Mentor and guide less experienced scientists in the team, managing project schedules, milestones, KPIs, reviews, and checkpoints.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • o OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • o OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • o OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 9+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • o OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • o OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years experience creating publications (e.g., patents, libraries, peer-reviewed academic papers).

  • 2+ years experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker.

  • 5+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings).

  • 3+ years experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team.

  • 3+ years experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.

Applied Sciences IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
