Job Title: Child & Family Outpatient Therapist Department: Child & Family Reports to: Child & Family Program Manager FLSA Status:   Exempt         


Summary - The Child & Family Clinical Therapist provides individual or group therapy to mentally or emotionally disturbed child/adolescents and their families.  This professional collaborates with psychiatric and allied team members in assessment, diagnosing, treatment planning and intervention.  This position answers to the Child and Family Program Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Provides comprehensive assessments.
  • Reports to work on time as scheduled and at the location assigned.
  • Assessments contain discussion of facts to allow for development of appropriate service plans.
  • The clinician demonstrates the ability to provide mental status information in a comprehensive manner.
  • Assessments give a clear picture of the client's treatment needs, and provide the information necessary to develop an individualized service plan.
  • Psychological/psychosocial interpretations are complete and accurate. Information provided is in accordance with DSM diagnostic criteria.
  • Provides treatment planning and review as related to client needs.
  • Develops written individual service plans, quarterly reviews, and termination summaries on the basis of client needs.
  • Practices Person Centered Planning principles.
  • Service planning integrates assessments to provide meaningful and individual goals and objectives.
  • Service reviews reflect the client's ongoing treatment needs and the development of additional necessary goals and objectives.
  • Progress notes are related to goals and objectives listed in the treatment plan.
  • The clinician completes necessary documentation in a timely manner.
  • Assessments are completed in a timely and thorough manner. All assessments contain the documentation requested on the form.
  • Assessments are completed within 30 days of the open date, and annually thereafter.
  • Progress notes are completed after each contact.
  • Service plans and reviews are completed within established timeframes.
  • The therapist conducts individual, family, and/or group therapy.
  • The therapist provides crisis intervention effectively.
  • The clinical treatment recommendations are reflective of the client's identified problem areas.
  • The therapist participates in clinical team meetings and coordinates team interventions.
  • The therapist is able to develop treatment goals and objectives which are consistent with the client, and other clinical team members.
  • The therapist consults with other team members when appropriate and integrates their input as appropriate.
  • The therapist takes responsibility for assigned crisis coverage.
  • The clinician has no substantiated recipient rights violations filed against him or her.
  • Direct service time. The clinician maintains 85% direct service hours/month, unless job assignments given with supervisory approval require a variance to this expectation.
  • The therapist participates in committees and assumes other tasks as requested.
  • The therapist participates in organizational activities as requested.
  • The therapist provides input into policy to improve services to clients.
