We are currently seeking applications for a Team Lead who will lead our Transportation Planning & Traffic Engineering (TPTE) Team. This individual will help us grow our team, support business development, encourage innovation and drive quality and efficiency throughout our business.

Your Opportunity

The TPTE Team Lead will work closely with our Alberta Transportation Leadership Team as well as our other discipline-specific Team Leads (Roads, Bridges, Transit & Rail, Aviation, CAD and Construction Administration) to deliver projects across Alberta and support work across Western Canada. This opportunity is ideal for a motivated individual who is a self-starter, passionate about working with people and has a thorough understanding of Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering.

Your Key Responsibilities

Administration/Team Management

  • Work closely with other Team Leads as well as the Alberta Transportation Leadership Team, participating in regular meetings and acting as a conduit of information between your team and the organization

  • Assist with the development and implementation of quality management practices and look for ways to improve design delivery, quality, and efficiency

  • Lead and supervise a team of engineers and technical staff to ensure projects’ needs are met in a timely and effective manner

  • Facilitate goal setting, training, and performance reviews with each of your team members. Support recruitment, development, and succession planning

  • Promote our strong safety culture, ensure this is at the forefront of our business and lead by example

  • Ensure administrative requirements are met including mandatory training, safety requirements and professional development, as well as professional requirements from regulatory bodies such as a APEGA

Business Development

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key clients including municipal/provincial agencies and private developers, as well as supporting cross-discipline strategic pursuits

  • Successfully lead new project pursuits to maintain an adequate back log of work for your team

  • Grow our client base and position in the market and strive to establish our team as leaders in the industry

  • Support the annual business planning process and additional marketing and business development efforts as needed

Technical

  • Project management including technical deliverables and financial management

  • Undertake Transportation Impact Assessments for a variety of small and large projects, including traffic analysis using various software platforms

  • Assign work to and oversee the work of junior and intermediate engineers

  • Functional and conceptual planning and design for urban and rural roadways

  • Planning and design of complete streets, active modes infrastructure and sustainable mobility

  • Lead and/or collaboration with multidisciplinary teams on major transportation planning and design projects

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, standards and thought leadership

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop a team

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and strong people skills

  • Collaborative in project team settings and engages in creative and critical thought

  • Business development and marketing skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experienced or familiar with traffic analysis software such as Synchro, SIDRA, HCM, VISSIM, etc.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering

  • Licensed Professional Engineer or equivalent

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience

  • Experience in the Alberta market is considered an asset

Position will primarily work in an office setting (with a hybrid work environment possible) and may occasionally require some field work.
