Engineer III - Combustion

The Engineer III - Combustion will... The Combustion Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing combustion systems to enhance efficiency and safety in the steel production process. This role involves working closely with other engineering and/or operations teams to ensure that combustion systems operate efficiently, meet environmental regulations, and contribute to the overall productivity and cost-effectiveness of the steel plant. The key responsibilities of the Combustion Engineer include: Combustion System Design and Optimization: Develop and implement combustion strategies to improve efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. Design and specify combustion equipment such as burners, fuel systems, and control systems. Conduct performance analysis and diagnostics on combustion systems to identify areas for improvement. Operational Support: Monitor and troubleshoot combustion systems during steel production to ensure optimal performance. Collaborate with maintenance teams to address any operational issues and minimize downtime. Provide technical support for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of combustion equipment. Compliance and Safety: Ensure that combustion systems comply with environmental regulations and safety standards. Recommend and/or implement procedures and practices to minimize emissions and environmental impact. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments related to combustion systems. Process Improvement: Analyze production data to identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions. Develop and implement best practices for combustion operations and energy management. Lead projects aimed at enhancing combustion efficiency and reducing operating costs. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other engineering disciplines, production teams, and external vendors. Prepare and present technical reports, documentation, and recommendations to management. Participate in cross-functional teams to address complex technical challenges and develop innovative solutions. Support engineering personnel implementing CAPEX projects with combustion systems Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to plant personnel on combustion system operations and safety. Stay updated with the latest advancements in combustion technology and industry standards Project Management: Develop and execute projects from start to finish, ensuring successful implementation. Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of combustion systems. Manage project costs, schedules, and budgets. Develop business cases where combustion system upgrades can improve the thru-put and costs for a given work center or process Center Of Excellence (COE): Lead the COE for all of Carpenter in Combustion Processes and Systems Work with Engineering and Operating personnel to assist in maximizing efficiencies and operating parameters of existing combustion systems and new systems being proposed as CAPEX investment Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements for the Engineer III - Combustion: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or certification in combustion enginee ing is a plus. 5+ years of experience in combustion engineering, preferably within the steel or heavy industry sector. Experience with combustion systems in high-temperature environments is highly desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information and collaborate with team members. Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities to address complex combustion issues. Strong understanding of combustion principles, fuel types, burner technologies, and control systems. Proficiency in using engineering software and tools for performance analysis. Knowledge of Aerospace Metals Engineering Committee; specifically, AMS2750. Knowledge of safety standards and environmental regulations related to combustion and steel production.
