Splunk Senior Technical Security Strategist in Reading, United Kingdom

Senior Technical Security Strategist (Hiring manager is Ryan Kovar)

Remote - EMEA

Join us as we pursue our disruptive new vision to make machine data accessible, usable and valuable to everyone. We are a company filled with people who are passionate about our product and seek to deliver the best experience for our customers. At Splunk, we’re committed to our work, customers, having fun and most importantly to each other’s success. Learn more about Splunk careers and how you can become a part of our journey!

We're looking for a mid-career candidate to join a new team of Security Strategists at Splunk dedicated to research and evangelism. As a security strategist, you'll work in every part of Splunk's security world. From sales to incident response, from blogging to speaking on stage, to researching and innovating, you will be doing a little bit of everything with the team. Strategists at Splunk, on any level, are quick problem-solvers, storytellers dedicated to customer success, and have a passion for the big picture.

Splunk is a global company with global customers, and this is a worldwide team. The day-to-day job is flexible both in content and schedule. You might spend your first 60 minutes on your couch catching up on last night's flurry of Slacks from colleagues Globally while reading Twitter #infosec. Or you might be presenting at 0800 to a CISO from a large bank in Segovia.

Your day-to-day work could be leading research projects into cybersecurity problems using Splunk, Python, and machine learning. You might finish your day by jumping on a LinkedIn Live panel and chatting about the most recent Ransomware outbreak. Or you could be putting the finishing touches on your BlackHat CFP submission and copyediting a colleague's blog post before working on the script for your Youtube vid. Working in this role, you will become a trusted advisor and partner to Splunk customers while working on a team trying to solve their (and everyone else's) biggest security problems.

We are explicitly looking for a mid-career or senior-career candidate experienced in cybersecurity, system administration, networking, or development. That can mean many things, and none of them have to do with "years of experience” or “certificates.”

Let’s talk! Saying that we do have some specific areas of knowledge that we are looking for you to have when you walk in the door:

  • You must be enthusiastic about (cyber|information) security

  • You have significant experience in at least one of these subjects: security operations, Python, Splunk, data science/machine learning, IT networking, "cloud,” system administration, or academic-style security research.

  • You are comfortable communicating (verbally and written but not dancing). You either already have that talent or are looking to learn how to do it better.

  • You are capable and desire to run projects with multiple stakeholders

  • Comfortable working with international collaborators and multiple timezones

  • You are fluent in English (but we would be excited to find out you have a second language skill!)

  • Something that we haven’t thought of but that you know that we need. If our requirements seem wide open, it’s because we are open to different skills and abilities.

Splunk is a great, diverse, and friendly place to work, and working on this team is one of the best opportunities we can imagine. We are work-from-home forward; we provide training (we’re the team that created Boss of the SOC!) and mentorship. You will have the opportunity to travel, speak at global conferences, and work with some of the best security talents in the business. If you are trying to grow your career in cybersecurity, like to communicate, think you would like a role that lets you be creative, and you believe that Splunk is the best cybersecurity tool that exists, this is a perfect fit for you.

We value diversity at our company. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or any other applicable legally protected characteristics in the location in which the candidate is applying. For job positions in San Francisco, CA, and other locations where required, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
