Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, LLC Senior Engineer I in Raymond, Ohio

Responsible for validating the body and/or chassis strength, durability, and marketability to meet internal requirements and model specific targets with a goal of meeting or exceeding Honda and Acura customer expectations. As an expert in technical area, oversee assigned vehicle development, CAE and research activities towards gathering computational results for body and/or chassis systems as well as develop others from technical and project perspective. Responsible for thorough understanding of new design structures by applying engineering know-how and Honda proprietary methods to determine the appropriate requirements for vehicles being developed. Responsible for the evaluation of full vehicle, subsystem, and component level tests through physical testing, engineering estimations, or the application of CAE to validate corrosion, environmental, strength, durability, and general marketability of development vehicles. Build complex finite element models for CAE analysis of vehicle body and chassis strength and durability requirements. Conduct advanced computer simulations of physical tests using Finite Element Analysis, primarily ABAQUS or NASTRAN. Evaluate the results of the analysis and physical test results. Present concise conclusions and recommendations for design improvements based on analysis results. Conduct research using primary data sources and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends in technical evaluations. Conduct complex root cause analyses to understand and react to testing and simulation results. Collaborate with the project team, design, and other function groups to resolve development vehicle concerns and implement countermeasures. Identify shortcomings and suggest improvements to existing processes, systems, and procedures in order to increase efficiency and other key metrics. Prepare documentation independently to record and submit all necessary information to Technical Experts and Leaders as the development, research, and testing process moves forward, which is required as the final step for completion of the development process.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering; 6 years of experience in automotive strength and durability computer aided simulation; 6 years of experience with Abaqus, Nastran, Hypermesh, Ansa, Mega, or LS-Dyna; 6 years of experience modeling using CATIA; 3 years of experience in leading engineering specification preparation; and 3 years of experience leading junior engineers in automotive simulation methods. 10% domestic and/or international travel required.
