Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in Ravenna, Nebraska is known for the special town that caters to families, giving everything they need to grow. Our location produces powdered meat and poultry for use in products such as seasonings, soups, and instant meals. Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for safely operating of all cookers and reactor; sanitizing overhead hoist; sanitizing cooling press; filtering and packing of rendered fat; maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment. This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Handle, lift, weigh, batch and mix raw materials Maintain proper temperatures and cooking pressures liquid product, as specifications require Test solids content of liquid product in process and maintaining proper levels Monitor system capacity and maintain proper levels of liquid product in system Unload liquid tankers Process liquid product as per instructions given Monitor operation of cooking and processing equipment Operate electric pallet jacks and/or forklifts Maintain production records and reports Perform mid-shift clean-ups in the cooker room or processing room during operations Clean and sanitize cooking and processing equipment and facilities, following proper clean-up procedures Assemble cooker room equipment prior to operations Assist in clean-ups of other areas Use appropriate safety equipment and wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required, and follow proper safety procedures and regulations; use lockout/tagout procedures when required Assume personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety & health in all jobs and tasks Adhere to quality work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality Ensure regulatory compliance at all times Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS: Work Experience: Up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Language Skills: Ability to read, speak, and comprehend simple English instructions; ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words as well as able to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply, and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance Computer Skills: Some basic computer skills Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 to 60 pounds occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme heat and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
