The EH&S Manager will be responsible for the environmental health and safety (EH&S) infrastructure and leadership of the EH&S team (4 EHS professionals). This position will partner with company management (across Innovative Medicine & Med Tech R&D, Advanced Therapies, Sterilization Sciences, Stability/Quality laboratories, Employee Health & Wellbeing, and Engineering & Property Services Facilities Maintenance) to develop strategic plans and complete and direct projects and programs crafted to ensure attainment of company's goals relative to EH&S outcomes. The EH&S Manager will drive, review and report progress against these strategies and goals. The position must demonstrate a broad knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and the ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies.

The EH&S Manager will provide technical expertise on occupational safety and industrial hygiene, with oversight for environmental. In addition, the manager will be responsible for the establishment, maintenance, and improvement of robust processes to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and control EHS risk at the Raritan, NJ Campus. They will drive action plan completion, provide technical support to ensure regulatory compliance and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) enterprise standards compliance, and ensure J&J goals are delivered. They will support EHS audits and inspections, recommendations, and process improvements.

The EH&S Manager will lead a team of EH&S professionals. This includes tracking team performance, mentoring team growth, and providing team recognition and feedback.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the Johnson & Johnson Raritan, NJ campus in developing and sustaining a culture of safety, through a number of J&J business units, program leaders and safety committees that promote employee engagement and accountability.

  • Develop technical and business sense of EH&S staff through coaching and individual development plans.

  • Responsible for the execution of an EHS management system that drives continuous improvement while sustaining ISO 14001 certification and improving overall EH&S performance.

  • Responsible for providing direction and a management of a contractor safety program consistent with J&J requirements.

  • Responsible to ensure consistent execution and continuous improvement of high-risk/non-routine work programs (i.e., confined space, LOTO, work at heights, electrical safety, machine safety, etc.).

  • Provide technical leadership, direction and oversight for the campus occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs.

  • Implementation of a comprehensive laboratory safety program.

  • Facilitate/perform EH&S regulatory compliance assessments and program reviews against the J&J EH&S Standards. Develop and implement corrective action plans to address program gaps and improvement opportunities.

  • Responsible for J&J site metrics and regulatory reporting requirements to ensure that all pertinent documentation is prepared, maintained, and submitted in a timely manner to regulatory agencies, as well as internally in J&J data management systems.

  • Solid understanding of applicable Federal, State and Local EHS laws, as well as J&J EHS Standards.

  • Serve as facility contact for all EHS regulatory agencies such as EPA, NJ DEP, OSHA, etc.

  • Conduct root cause incident investigations, workplace inspections, qualitative/quantitative risk assessments and implement the crucial changes to minimize potential employee exposures and prevent reoccurrence of incidents.

  • Update site management on new regulations and assess potential impact to site operations.

  • Review capital projects to identify potential EH&S impacts and participate in their resolution.

  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate emergency response capabilities are in place.

  • Develop and maintain EH&S operating budget.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or another technical field is required. A Master of Science degree in an EH&S related field is preferred.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • A minimum of six (6) years of EH&S experience.

  • Experience in building, leading, supervising and maintaining EH&S programs.

  • Knowledge of federal and state EH&S regulations.

  • Strong industrial hygiene, safety, and construction safety background.

  • Classroom and virtual training skills.

  • Experience in identifying, evaluating, and controlling EH&S hazards.

Preferred:

  • 4 years of leading teams or direct people management.

  • Certifications such as a Professional Engineer, Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist.

  • Laboratory safety, machine safety and contractor safety program implementation.

  • Ability to interpret regulatory issues and provide solutions for remediation.

Other:

  • Requires up to 10% domestic travel.

  • The anticipated base pay range for this position is 99000 to 170200.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year

  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
