Operate asphalt plant for the production of hot mix asphalt and other mix designs used in construction and maintenance of roadways. The job requires knowledge of aggregates, oils, admixture products, as well as testing standards in accordance with mix designs


  • Support the Simon safety culture and other Company strategic initiatives

  • Assists internal and external customers with ordering

  • Reads incoming paperwork to insure proper materials are being delivered

  • Safely and properly operate Asphalt Plant

  • Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges

  • Maintain communication lines with Managers, Superintendents, paving Foreman

  • Hook up off-load hoses for AC delivery

  • Trace product and raw material lines to ensure proper transfers

  • Adjust valves as necessary to load or unload product in tanks and lines

  • Climb tank ladders (up to 50’ high) to take tank gauges or service mechanical apparatuses as needed

  • Check temperature and PSI of oil heater and adjust as necessary

  • Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication

  • Perform plant and line maintenance including repair and replacement of valves, motors, bearings, gaskets, shafts, and gauges, etc.

  • Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in logbook on daily basis

  • Complete daily production reports with details such as time, temperature and quantity on daily basis

  • Clean facilities by sweeping, shoveling, scraping spills, etc.

  • Ensures materials and/or supplies on-hand for next day construction projects

  • Tear down, move and re-assemble asphalt plant

  • Travel to other work locations as necessary

Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

  • Three or more years related asphalt plant operating experience

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal

  • Valid drivers’ license with clean driving history required

  • Capable of safely working at heights

  • Dedicated, hard working and career-oriented

  • Mechanical and electrical skills are desirable

  • Ability to provide customer service

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

  • Must be dependable and reliable for all work shifts

  • Some travel to other work locations may be required

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required

  • Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance

  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel

  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)

  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl

  • Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain

  • Frequent exposure to loud noise

  • Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles

  • Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals

  • Occasionally required to work at heights on plant equipment
