Rapid City Area Schools School Security Officer in Rapid City, South Dakota

BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Ensure a safe and secure environment in which faculty, staff and students can pursue and achieve the academic and leadership objectives without concern for their personal safety, personal property or the property of Rapid City Area Schools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

A. Investigate building and facility intrusions, and may detain persons trespassing on District property for further investigation by law enforcement agencies. B. Inspect, review, and monitor District property to ensure against inappropriate use, property loss or damage, and to eliminate potential safety hazards. C. Work with administrators, staff, students, and parents in deterring bullying of students. D. Assists in traffic control at District facilities. E. Perform patrol of school facilities, offices and other District property. F. Monitor and direct student activities in hallways, restrooms, and in areas adjacent to the school buildings and sites. G. Control, monitor, and provide direction to non-district persons on District property. H. Perform maintenance and repair of locker locks throughout the school year. I. Assist with maintenance and repairs of surveillance systems. J. Enforce the District and school regulations pertaining to day and evening school activities and community use activities. K. Counsel and advise students and others regarding violations of District rules and regulations concerning the proper use of District facilities and property. L. Assist in maintaining appropriate student behavior, and reducing property loss and damage. M. Prepares reports of unusual and inappropriate behavior and violations of legal provisions. N. Investigate incidents involving destruction of property, vandalism, and theft. O. Prepare incident reports concerning the destruction of property, vandalism, and theft. P. Contact School Resource Office or appropriate law enforcement agencies to request assistance in maintaining the security, protection and control of District school facilities, offices and other District property. Q. May detain persons on District property violating rules and regulations, and applicable legal code provisions. R. Assist in maintaining control of large numbers of people at athletic events, student activities, and other events to ensure the rules and regulations pertaining to conduct and safety are observed. S. Shall abide by and be knowledgeable of city and state ordinances and school policies that apply to the towing of vehicles. Shall have the authority during the school day to remove students from vehicles parked on school district property. T. Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters. U. Monitor and comply with federal, state and district policies and procedures. V. Monitor and comply with federal, state and District policies and procedures.
