Job Description Summary:

The VMWare Engineer will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of Ryder’s VMWare infrastructure. The selected candidate will interface with peers across all technical disciplines (Security, Network, Storage, Application, Infrastructure and ITSM) to deploy and operate VMware infrastructure and applications. The candidate will create and maintain operational procedures to ensure compliance with Ryder’s polices and audits.

To ensure success as a VMware engineer, should exhibit sound knowledge of VMware technologies including vSphere, NSX, vSAN, vRealize suite and SRM; with and practical experience managing highly available VMware infrastructure across multiple data centers as part of a disaster recovery architecture.

Essential Functions:

• Works with and manages cross functional teams to identify operational procedures and best practices in accordance with infrastructure management strategy.

• Provides technical support and consultation to teams and customers as needed.

• Performs architecture review, infrastructure design and builds, and maintenance and support activities.

• Coordinate monthly/quarterly audit per Ryder’s polices.

• Maintains ticket queues within ServiceNow catalog.

• Applies Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework knowledge.

• Determining business needs and evaluating existing network infrastructure and systems.

• Developing and deploying customized VMware solutions.

• Collaborate with other teams to integrate VMware solutions into Ryder’s infrastructure.

• Support P2Vs and migrations of applications onto virtual machines.

• Installing operating systems and service packs, as well as security patches and bug fixes.

• Troubleshooting and resolving VMware environment issues.

• Support application teams in implementing and operating application environments across Ryder’s physical and virtualized compute infrastructure.

• Providing technical support and documenting VMware processes.

• Keeping informed of developments in VMware technologies and products.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or Business Information Services.

• Master’s Degree preferred or equivalent work experience and technical training.

EXPERIENCE:

• (Five) 5 years or more experience as a VMware engineer.

• (Five) 5 years or more of systems engineering/administration experience in Microsoft Windows and Linux Operating Systems.

• Five (5) years or more experience of relevant work experience with demonstrated technical expertise in supporting complex computer platforms.

• Extensive knowledge of the fundamentals of VMware and related technologies.

• Proficiency in VMware associated technologies such as SAN storage, Networking, Firewalls, Load Balancers, Windows OS, Linux OS

• (Five) 5 years Linux Server administration experience.

• Red Hat RHCE/RHCA Certification is preferred but not required.

• Red Hat Satellite experience is a plus.

• Ansible experience is a plus.

• Proficiency in configuration management, scripting and automation technologies, such as Powershell, Terraform, Python, Ansible, or Perl.

• Exceptional analytical and technical aptitude.

• Great organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

• Availability to resolve urgent VMware environment problems outside of business hours.

• Experience in the industry or in a production/service environment similar to that of the employer is highly preferred.

• Ability to communicate technical issues and translate into non-technical business reviews.

• Available to support 24x7 on-call rotation excluding pre-approved exceptions.

Salary is determined based on internal equity; internal salary ranges; market

data/ranges; applicant’s skills; prior relevant experience; certain degrees or

certifications, etc.

The salary for this position ranges from $100,000.00 to $130,000.00. Employees may also be eligible to receive an annual bonus, as applicable.
