Job Title:Chief Risk Officer

Position Location:Raleigh, NC. This position is not remote, candidate must live locally.

Your impact:

As Coastal's Chief Risk Officer, you will develop and implement strategic plans to mitigate risk while meeting member needs; and increase collection opportunities. As a highly visible key member of our Executive Leadership Team (ELT), you are a model of Coastal's culture and a critical integrator of the strategic vision. You will collaborate across business lines to address risk factors and build a culture of compliance across the organization.

As a key contributor to the Coastal team, your responsibilities will be:

  • Building an enterprise-wide risk management function that will deliver an exceptional member experience while appropriately mitigating risks, meet all compliance requirements, and satisfy Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) requirements for large credit unions (greater than $10B in assets) in anticipation of future growth
  • Ensuring a robust disaster recovery protocol and business continuity plan
  • Building a strategic member account resolution plan that adjusts to trends, expands on payment solutions, increases our opportunities for early and late-stage collections and post-charge offs, and optimizes recovery while maintaining quality member service and supporting our growth goals
  • Owning portfolio loss forecasting for both shorter-term periods (upcoming month/quarter) and longer-range periods (upcoming calendar year and longer) and collaborating on the allocation of economic capital to optimize the risk portfolio of the Credit Union through business activities and risk transfer strategies
  • Building and leading a high-performing team by fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability; ensuring staff is fully trained; mentoring and developing senior leaders; and providing guidance and support for professional growth and achievement of performance objectives
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives across all operational areas to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service quality while establishing metrics to deepen member security and confidence

Experience:

  • Twelve years of experience in leading and driving company-wide risk management, compliance, and fraud initiatives including collections functions
  • Five years of executive level leadership and management experience including strategy and execution
  • Experience in banking operations, payments, and financial services

Education:

  • Related bachelor's degree or ten years' related work experience; advanced degrees in technology or business preferred
  • Juris doctorate preferred
