Radford University Associate Director, First-Gen Center in Radford, Virginia
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Student Involvement, the Associate Director of will serve as the leader for the First-Gen Center. The Associate Director will lead, develop, and assess the Center to ensure positive outcomes for first-generation students at Radford University. They will also serve on the leadership team for the department and actively assist in the advancement of departmental operations.
The Associate Director will boldly advance the first-generation student experience through peer mentoring initiatives, faculty engagements, strategic programming, alumni touchpoints, family support interventions, and career planning. Intentional branding, communication, and advertising will be a critical function that the Associate Director will advance. Regular and annual assessment is required to demonstrate success as mapped to the University Strategic Plan.
This role requires a student-centered, team-oriented professional with a demonstrated record of leadership and project execution while fostering a collaborative and spirited work environment. All members of the Student Involvement staff work to advance the unit vision, the Division of Student Affairs Models of Practice and Radford University’s commitment to inclusion and excellence. Further, staff members advance the department’s safety and risk management initiatives in order to create a positive and safe environment.
Required Qualifications:
A demonstrated ability for collaboration, organization, and bold advancement of new initiatives; a demonstrated understanding of student development pathways for first-generation student success; a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituent groups.Demonstrated application of effective assessment strategies, strong communication and marketing skills. Cultural competence, a collaborative approach, and a learning mindset are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with developing and delivering targeted student programming initiatives. Building relationships and developing program buy-in across both internal and external constituent groups. Supervisory experience. Demonstrated efficient, effective, and engaging public speaking. Engagement with professional higher education associations (i.e. NASPA , ACUI , NACA , ACPA , AAC &U). A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
