Radford University Adjunct Faculty - Biology in Radford, Virginia
Job Summary:
Biology adjunct faculty typically teach introductory and/or non-majors courses, including Biology for Health Sciences ( BIOL 105); Human Anatomy & Physiology (BIOL310/311); Microbiology ( BIOL 334); and other courses based on departmental needs and areas of expertise. Opportunities may arise to teach majors courses or electives. Course loads most commonly are comprised of two or three sections (each section 24 students) of a single course, taught as three hours of lectures combined across all sections, and separate 2- or 3-hour labs for each section.
The Department of Biology encourages and supports professional development in teaching through Radford University’s Center for Teaching and Learning or other avenues of training.
Adjunct faculty hold appointments as defined by their letter of appointment, without eligibility for tenure. Where authorized by the Dean, adjunct appointments may be renewed. Adjunct appointments do not guarantee course assignments.
Required Qualifications:
All faculty must have at least a Master’s degree in the field/discipline in which they are teaching with 18 hours of course work related to the course(s) being taught. In some cases, subject to the approval by the Provost, a faculty member could be recommended for appointment based on substitution of significant experience for the degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Biology or related field, and prior teaching experience.
