UIC Government Services and the Bowhead Family of Companies Quality Control Manager - Rockford Corporation in Quonset Point, Rhode Island

Overview

Construction Quality Control personnel examine buildings, road ways, parking lots, asphalt, concrete, fuel piping, fuel tanks, excavations, electrical systems.

They ensure that their construction, complies with building codes and ordinances, and contract specifications. To monitor compliance with regulations, inspectors make an initial inspection during the first phase of construction and follow up with further inspections throughout the construction project.

Although inspections are primarily visual, inspectors may use tape measures, survey instruments, metering devices, and equipment such as concrete strength measurers. They keep a log of their work, take photographs, and file reports. Quality Control personnel also use laptops or other portable electronic devices onsite to facilitate the accuracy of their written reports, as well as e-mail and fax machines to send out the results. If necessary, they act on their findings. For example, government and construction inspectors notify the construction contractor, superintendent, or supervisor when they discover a violation of a code or ordinance or something that does not comply with the contract specifications or approved plans.

• Currently an Iowa Licensed UST Installed

• Read and interpret engineering, architectural, other construction drawings, and specifications.

• Basic scheduling

• Reporting including, daily reports, inspection reports and submittal preparation & review

• Implementation of corporate safety program and applicable safety regulations

• Interpretation of building codes and standards

• Implement and complete quality and inspection procedures.

• Application of basic mathematics

• Promote Rockford’s reputation as a respected member of the community.

• Participate effectively in representing Rockford at functions outside the corporation.

• Maintain strong relationships with client, subcontractor, architect and design consultants.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise on-site work to ensure the work is performed safely and efficiently.

  • Enforce the site specific safety plan and perform periodic safety inspections and walkthroughs as required.

  • Supervise in-house labor through a Foreman or Lead Man.

  • Assist the project manager with ordering all required materials and interact with subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Inspect the work of each trade and confirm that not only the quality of the work is up to standard, but that the work is being built in accordance with the plans and specification.

  • Ensure that the project maintains the required schedule by organizing, planning, monitoring, and inspecting work.

  • Prepare daily progress reports for work performed.

  • Maintain and enforce safety regulations and building code requirements.

  • Organize and run weekly safety meetings with in-house trade staff and subcontractors.

  • Organize and run weekly progress meeting.

  • Coordinate the installation of work with Quality Control Plan requirements.

  • Develop and execute detailed work plans for future scheduled work

  • Travel will be required 100% of the time.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist with project estimates, bid packages and schedule preparation and budgets.

  • Assist and support the Quality Manager in the execution of the project's quality plan.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

• Thorough knowledge of construction materials and practices.

• Extensive knowledge of building codes and standards, inspection techniques, codes,

• Graduate Mechanical Engineer or Graduate Construction Manager with 2 years related experience or Individual with 5 years of related experience.

• Ability to pass a Federal Background check and gain access to a DoD facility

• Valid driver’s license

• Basic understanding of construction scheduling

• Demonstrated ability to prepare work plans, daily reports, inspection reports, prepare submittals and review submittals.

• Extensive knowledge of OSHA construction regulations

• Understanding of basic mathematics

• Ability to be flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to work as part of a team

• Proven decisiveness and ability to work well under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.

• Ability to coordinate several major activities at once, while analyzing and resolving specific problems

• Ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural, other construction drawings, and specifications.

• Familiarity with computers and software programs including Microsoft Office

• Good oral and written communication skills.

• Proven ability to establish a good working relationship with many different people, including owners, other managers, designers, supervisors, and craft workers.

• Ability to work more than a standard 40-hour week when the project schedule dictates.

• Good physical condition in order to walk and climb about construction and building sites.

• Familiarity with Corps of Engineers 3-Phase Inspection procedures

• Basic accounting knowledge

• Aviation fuel system and/or tank construction, maintenance or repair knowledge

Knowledge & Critical Skills/Expertise:

Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate the work requirements with various staff and subcontractors.

Familiar with OSHA construction standards, USACOE EM-385 standards, and common safety practices.

Ability to prioritize, organize and work well under stress and maintain deadlines.

Ability to be flexible and adapt to constant change.

Ability to work flexible hours in order to meet deadlines.

Exhibit an acceptable degree of self-confidence.

Knowledge of acceptable construction site practices including occupational safety and health regulations.

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with internal and external clients and co-workers.

Ability to follow directions is a must.

Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to complete each task assignment.

Must be comfortable with high intensity work environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft computer applications.

Proficiency in scheduling software.

High attention to detail and quality workmanship.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Coordinates, supervises, manages, on-site trades personnel and subcontractor work.

Physical Demands:

  • Walk and climb about construction and building sites.

  • Walking on uneven ground surfaces.

  • Working outdoors and exposed to all types of weather conditions and environments.

  • Regular walking, standing, sitting, pulling or pushing and must be able to reach/relocate items above shoulders.

  • Lifting and/or carrying items that weigh up to 50 pounds.

  • Occasional bending/stooping, climbing, kneeling, crouching or crawling.

  • Will also spend time in a field office reviewing blueprints, answering letters, or phone calls, writing reports.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Use of hands and fingers simultaneously with repetition.

  • Ability to distinguish difference in noise levels and work in high noise areas.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Construction Superintendents perform some work in an office trailer; the remainder of work required is performed outdoors or at the project location.

  • Field conditions may prevail.

  • Work locations may be subject to high wind, heavy rains or snow, and temperatures ranging from 20(-) degrees F in the winter to 115(+) degrees F in the summer.

  • Travel will be required 100% of the time.

  • The majority of the work will be performed in remote locations within the Southwest United States with an emphasis on working on Native American Lands and Reservations.

Employee must possess a valid driver license and pass Smith Driver Training within one year of hire.

Individuals with one or more serious violations (DUI/DWI) shall not be authorized to drive vehicles, including company, personal or rental cars to conduct company business.

Employee must follow the UMIAQ Authorized Driver Policy and Procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.
