GTEC (Global Technology & Engineering Center) is one of the largest innovation centers for Whirlpool around the world and a critical arm to its global product research and development. The GTEC team contributes incredible ideas and translates them into user-friendly home solutions that have and continue to improve people’s everyday lives. The team is instrumental to support the Global Product Organization to deliver product leadership for Whirlpool.

This role in summary

The position is responsible for leading and executing the design and development of components/modules/subsystems by preparing concepts in Mechanical Structures, Building on organizational/process knowledge, and understanding business needs. Solves complex problems, trade-offs & prioritizes design decisions.

Your responsibilities will include

• Responsible for generating and reviewing engineering design concepts at the Subsystem /module/component level and aimed at improving performance, increasing quality and/ or optimizing cost.

• Drive engineering calculations as required supporting Design integrity.

• Evaluate, and recommend the developed concepts in terms of engineering, and manufacturing and suggest the best concept, priority of selection, and other trade-offs if necessary.

• Coordinate and effectively communicate the Design Concepts with different stakeholders during Project/ Design Reviews

• Responsible for understanding project requirements/physics of problem/ Design requirements

• Responsible for converting Consumer Requirements into complex Technical problems and performing component-level designs independently and What if scenario analysis and cost comparison analysis.

• Leads/contributes/accountable towards systematic problem solving to close knowledge gaps as applicable.

• Perform /Support/contribute DFMEA, Tolerance stack up analysis and other preventive action steps during product design and development.

• Apply DFx( DFA,DFM,DFR,DFS,DFSS) methodologies in Design independently

• Drive material selection based on functional requirements.

• Create product / subsystem-specific test plans as per standards to get the design changes approved.

• Responsible for DVP&R at Subsystem, module & components

• Lead /drive /contribute sub-system projects using product development

Minimum requirements

• B.Tech/ BE Mech , ME / MTECH

• BE 6-10 yrs ME 5-8 yrs in Mechanical Structure Design and development .

Preferred skills and experiences

• Advance product development

• Drive Innovation projects within the team

• Perform /Support/contribute DFMEA, Tolerance stack-up analysis, and other preventive action steps during product design and development.

• Engineering Concept Designs for plastic and Sheet Metal parts

• Value engineering ideas

• DFX tool usage for driving engineering solutions - CSM, DOE, DFx tools

• WPD - Product Design Reviews

• Test plan and Reliability testings
