The Opportunity:
The Department of Sociology at Washington State University is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Fiscal Specialist to support the Finance/Budget Manager for assigned College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) units. Your role will involve complex fiscal analysis, financial reporting, and a variety of support functions including record-keeping, auditing, payroll monitoring, and preparation of spend authorizations and expense reports for travel and reimbursements. You will oversee purchasing, personnel maintenance and retention, and inventory management. In this position you will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reports, as well as maintaining comprehensive fiscal record-keeping systems. The successful candidate will begin as either a Fiscal Specialist 1 or Fiscal Specialist 2 depending on your level of experience.
Additionally, you will support various units to ensure compliance with policies, rules, and regulations. You will provide guidance to graduate students, staff, faculty, and administrators on applicable policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will be able to work independently within their scope of duties, with support from the Finance/Budget Manager, Directors, and Chairs of all assigned units. Please note, as a Fiscal Specialist 2 hire, you will also be responsible for monitoring grant budgets for monthly and yearly reporting purposes.
Required Qualifications Fiscal Specialist 1:
• Three years of fiscal record keeping experience; OR equivalent education/experience.
Required Qualifications Fiscal Specialist 2:
• Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Fiscal Specialist 1 AND 15 quarter hours OR 10 semester hours of college level accounting; OR equivalent education/experience.
Required Qualifications for all:
• Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office programs.
• Experience with spreadsheets and reporting.
• Demonstrated experience with problem solving.
• Experience providing high quality customer service.
• Able to work independently and make decisions based on scope of work.
Preferred Qualification Fiscal Specialist 2:
• Experience with managing grants.
Preferred Qualifications for all:
• Experience working in a higher education academic department.
• Experience with researching and interpreting policies and procedures.
• Experience with WSU systems including Workday, myWSU, myresearch, myfacilities, etc.
