For over 100 years, the WSU Prosser Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (IAREC) in Prosser, WA has focused on research and education that directly benefits our Ag Community, locally and worldwide. With over 100 staff and students and nearly 30 WSU faculty, USDA and WSDA scientists on site, our support staff is vital to our operations. Summary of Duties:
The Administrative Support Specialist is a key member of WSU Prosser IAREC and serves as a principal adviser to the Prosser IAREC Director. This position has delegated authority by the Director to make commitments affecting Prosser IAREC management policies and departmental operations and serves as the communications liaison with CAHNRS administration and external constituencies. This position will also interact with visitors to WSU Prosser IAREC, the local community, and other campuses and R&E centers, developing and managing educational programs, planning and coordinating events, and developing outreach opportunities and materials, including managing social media and website updates, annual report design and preparation and other digital or print materials as necessary. This position requires the exercise of independent judgment, decision- making, agricultural writing abilities, and initiative in performing all duties, demonstrating a strict level of confidentiality in all matters relating to the governance and function of Prosser IAREC. The position may require work at odd hours and on weekends. Additionally, this position is required to occasionally travel for training and events with the possibility of overnight travel.
Required Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's degree in business administration or other relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible management work experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email and calendar)
• Flexibility to travel or work after hours or weekends, with advanced notice
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in multi-cultural team settings
• Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with https://policies.wsu.edu/prf/index/manuals/safety-policies-procedures-manual/sppm-7-10/#four_3 and departmental driving standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
• At least one-year fiscal related education or experience
• Experience with layout and design of printed media
• Experience with WordPress and social media platforms
• Event planning and coordination
• Project management software
